Term 4 is well and truly underway and we are almost to the end of the 2022 school year. Well done to our Year 7s on their first year at Westall Secondary College thus far.
We look forward to you supporting our new Year 7s of 2023, in the upcoming Orientation Day.
Upcoming events in Term 4:
Headstart will begin in Week 9, with 1 week of Academic skills followed by 1 week of Lifeskills. During Academic skill week, Year 7 students will transition into their new Year 8 timetable and Year 8s into their Year 9 timetable for 2023. It is important that all students continue striving for excellence as the 2022 school year comes to a close.

Year 8 students researched the work of renowned Australian artist Anthony Breslin, whom we were very privileged to have worked with, in 2013, on a large totem installation at Westall Secondary College called ‘Sacred Tribal space’.
The students explored tribal heads found in a range of cultures used to ward off evil spirits. The work in progress is tribal heads created with timber scraps, plywood, acrylic paint, and PVA glue. Large panels of plywood hold all the characteristics of the tribal face. The students worked with timber materials to create bold, abstract, scary, humorous, and ‘wacky’ faces. The artworks will be painted with acrylic colours, glossed with timber varnish, and displayed to ward off any ‘evil spirits’ lurking in the Westall corridors!!

The Year 7 students worked on assembling and coding ‘LEGO ROBOTS’ created by Mindstorm. The students worked in groups to collaborate and construct the Robots using an instruction manual. The happy smiles are the groups that finally got their Robot to move!
Endless hours were put into connecting the Lego pieces, checking they are all in the right place, and then using the inbuilt programs to code the Robot to move in a range of directions. The students developed patience, and persistence, and enhanced their fine motor skills. They learned how to plan, work with a team, and above all, achieved a sense of accomplishment.
