Newsletter article for Year 8 Visual Communication Design
This past semester, I had the privilege of teaching two Year 8 Visual Communication Design classes for the very first time. I truly appreciated the guidance from the Head of Arts Faculty and my wonderful mentor, Pamela Fox. The students’ creativity, talent and enthusiasm also made teaching the classes such a memorable experience.
The Year 8 students began the semester with Industrial Design, which involved drawing either a toy truck, ship or train from observation.
The students then moved onto Environmental Design and Communication Design.
In Environmental Design, the Year 8 student created two-point perspective drawings of a beach house. For Communication Design, the students analysed a range of existing book covers – before designing their very own.
Finally, as the perfect end to the perfect semester, the Year 8 students created their own product designs. From cereal boxes and event passes to shoes and dresses, I was amazed by all the unique concepts.
But I believe the students say it best. Following are testimonials from some of the Year 8 students, as well as photos of their wonderful work.
"I recommend VisComm to anyone who loves art"
"In VisComm, I have the freedom to draw, make and play with different styles.
I enjoy the subject a lot – listening to my favourite songs and creating away.
I also really liked designing the different characters and objects featured in my work.
I recommend VisComm to anyone who loves art."
