End of Term 2 is here!
The end of term evokes many things from the rush of completing assessments, end of semester two reports to the celebrations of St Peter’s Day and the final 3.20pm. There is no doubt that each year we recreate with refinement the celebrations and activities of St Peter’s Day. However I must say that this year staff and students went above and beyond to create one of the most reverent, spiritual and fun fulfilled two days of celebrations that was St Peter’s Day 2019.
I am never surprised, only proud of how respectful and generous of spirit our students are in their contribution to creating a sacred space for their community to celebrate mass and give thanks to our Patron, Saint Peter. The heart of St Peter’s day is indeed the celebration of the Eucharist.
On Tuesday 25th, the temperature gauge may have read a very lowly figure but the sun shone brightly defrosting the ice that had settled overnight on the Piazza. As we assembled, the Piazza became flooded with the richness of our staff and students eager for the festivities of St Peter’s Day to begin. We were truly blessed and honoured to have had a key note speech from co-Australian of the Year 2019, Dr Craig Challen.
Our assembly also involved a number of students being presented with certificates celebrating servant leadership in many aspects of school life, presented by Mrs Marlene Jorgensen. Mr S as he is so respectfully and affectionately referred to by our staff and students presented many coveted sporting awards including individual and team events. Well done to all of our servant leaders and sporting stars.
After the assembly – the fun and activities began.
Once again the SRC and all of the Houses put on such innovative and interactive activities that not only ensured fun and excitement but required skill, expertise and ingenuity. Conquering Escape rooms, fleeing a Haunted House, mastering the ancient skills of henna artistry, eating hot jam donuts, navigating a very tricky mini golf, Mario kart and nerf gun battles, and flying high on the UFO ride were just some of the wonderful activities of the day.
The talent quest was once again provided the grand finale of the day. Our students are funny, smart, kind, generous and very, very talented. Thank you to Mr Wallwork and Mr Pulley for the organisation that goes into our Assembly and Talent Quest. Thank you also to our talent quest judges, a splendid job.
Finally a huge thank you to the staff, students and House Leaders who have spent many hours and days planning for St Peter’s Day 2019. We have surely raised a great deal of money for much needed relief for those in need especially during the harshness of winter. I am hopeful that my dunking in the cold waters of the dreaded dunking machine also contributed to the fun and fundraising of the day.
Year 7 Police Talk
Once again we are very fortunate of our close working relationship with the Police Youth Liasion officers of Cranbourne. On Wednesday, 26 June, the Year 7 students were treated to a most valuable session on their rights and importantly their responsibilities as members of the community. Adolescence can be a difficult and complex time for young people as they try to establish themselves within friendship groups and navigate their way through social media. Today all year 7’s have been given the right advice and the legal situation with regard to social media and its usefulness as well as the damage the wrong use of it can cause. I invite all parents to ask the son/daughter about this session.
Staff vs Student Soccer Match
A fantastic way to close the term with a staff vs student soccer match. To my surprise, the staff walked away with the win 0-3. Some mighty fine footwork from all players. A great event.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday, please be safe and be sure to care for one another.
