 Ash Wednesday

Staff received their ashes on Wednesday during a very spiritual service from Father Denis. The blessing of the ashes brings us back to a level of humility about our own moral existence and the to cherish the gifts that God has given each and every one of us. The ashes blessed during the staff service were then taken and distributed to our students in House Liturgies. We thank Father Denis for always being our rock of support in our spiritual journey and growth.

Building House Spirit – this week in focus is Kolbe and Augustine Houses.

House spirit continues to grow as students under the leadership of their House Captains take ownership of the House space through inspirational decorations, symbols and themes. From GEMs to Boot Camp, we hear from the House Captains of Kolbe and Augustine.

KOLBE GEMS:

The idea of "Kolbe G.E.M.S" was raised and encouraged by the forum leader representatives in our house. The name 'GEMS' stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We have emphasised GEMS to practise these values that have been created by the Resilience Project- which work to support the well being of students.   Tenneale and Kashu

Augustine – a new space and BOOT CAMP

As House Captains we want the best for our house whether it be striving to achieve success in our studies and events such as the Swimming Carnival 2019  or building spirit within our house. We believe Augustine can keep up the great work and continue to strengthen together as a house.  Sophie & Jaden

A great turn out last week, let's keep building on this. Remember, Plato's Mind-Body theory. Plato( 428 BC) is still going strong – is he was one of the earliest aerobic instructors. Doing exercise as a house is a great way to get healthier, happier and feel more connected to my house members. When people exercise with me I feel more motivated to exercise.

After exercising I also feel more energised and ready to study well. Prerena

International Women’s Day 8th March

To mark international women’s day, students wrote message of gratitude and these were placed on the wall of the library in a public display. The messages were very moving and embraced the concept of paying honour and thanks to those women who have shown courage, humility, love and compassion throughout their lives. Many of the messages were dedicated to mums, sisters, aunts and grandmas. So we say thank you to all who play such vital roles in our lives. International men’s day will also be celebrated in a similar way later in the year.

Harmony Day Celebrations:

We will celebrate Harmony Day 2019 on Tuesday 12th March even though the official date is 21st March. The important issue is to celebrate Harmony. Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home - from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. It is a day of hope, peace, and gratitude that we get to live in a country that respects and value all cultures, all people.

To create an impact this year we are going to use Hats for Harmony as our theme. This works in so many ways. As we will be utilising our wonderful piazza area we need to be sun smart, wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Students are busy planning the entertainment for Harmony Day and our VCAL students are promising to delight our taste buds with their vast array of international culinary dishes.

Normal classes will run periods 1, 2, 3 and 5 – with just a slight alteration of times for period 3 & 4 to provide a longer lunch time for students to enjoy the Harmony Day activities

Harmony Day Dress Code - 2019

Students are encouraged to wear clothing unique to their own culture or another culture to which they have a connection. This includes clothing commonly worn in that culture such as a kimono for students that have been on Japanese exchange or a salvar if the student has Turkish family background. National sports teams like the Socceroos or clothing that represents a country such as a top with their country name or their flag on it are allowed.

If students do not have any cultural clothing they may wear an orange shirt or top as orange is the official colour of Harmony Day and is a symbol which promotes cultural diversity.

*** Hats for Harmony: This year the Clyde North Campus ask all students to wear a hat on Harmony day (Hats can be part of your cultural dress or a favourite hat – but no novelty hats). Wearing the hat will symbolise all of us supporting Harmony and as most of our Harmony Day activities will be outside in our new Piazza area – Hats make us sun smart.

All money raised goes to Project Compassion.

Whilst we were disappointed in the cancellation of the camp, it was of course necessary and we are looking at possible alternative dates. Thank you for all of your understanding support.

I wish you a productive and safe week.
