Assistant Principal's Report

Semester One Reports

Semester One reports were made available in Compass earlier this term; I hope all parents/carers have had the chance to access the reports and discuss your child’s learning progress at home. These reports are different to semester reports from previous years in that they do not include teacher comments. Please refer to the assessments in Compass Learning Tasks for more detailed feedback.

We encourage students to review these reports with their Parents/Carers and develop a plan to address noted areas for improvement. It is important to then set related goals for the next semester, taking into account what students have achieved and any areas requiring changes. If you have trouble accessing the reports or you need password support, then please contact the General Office.

Year 7-10 Parent-Teacher Interviews

The next opportunity for formal feedback will be at the Year 7-10 parent-teacher interviews event on Tuesday, 17th September, from 3 to 6pm. Please add this date to your calendars.

Course Counselling and Subject Selection

All students have undergone some level of course counselling and have completed their selection of subjects and electives for 2020. The College will use these selections to determine the subjects that will run in 2020 based on the number of students choosing particular subjects. The priority is to try and meet everyone’s learning requirements within a workable framework. Subjects may be deemed no longer viable due to small numbers, in which case, students will be re-counselled to select alternative subject/s. We expect that the process will be finalised by the end of this term.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

This is a reminder that we have in place a BYOD policy and require students to bring their device, fully charged to school each day in order to support their classroom learning activities. The school uses the Compass Learning Management System each lesson of every day as well as many other valuable online resources to support students in their learning. It is important that students follow this policy and not disadvantage themselves by not having the same access to resources as their peers. The college does provide the loan of devices on a daily basis and though we also have laptop trolleys which staff can book, these are limited. It is preferable that students have their own devices in every class every day unless advised by the classroom teacher that it is not required.

Compass Reminders

Parents can view Reports and upcoming events/ excursions that are occurring at the College by visiting the Compass Portal.

Please remember to log on regularly to check your child’s attendance, the latest news, and use Compass to contact teachers if needed.

All parents should have their Parent Compass Login details. If you do not have these details, please contact the College on 9546 3233 and we can email or re-post this to you.

Second-Hand Uniform and Textbooks

The College is conscious of the need to provide an efficient process for families to be able to buy and sell their second-hand textbooks and other student resources.

We would like to remind you of the availability of the Sustainable School Shop website to trade second-hand items.

www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au.

Please see the details included in the Parent Information page of this newsletter for further information on how you can buy and sell books and uniform via the Sustainable School Shop.

Winter Uniform

Families are reminded that all students should be in full winter uniform this term. School ties must be worn and students are encouraged to wear plain white t-shirts under the school shirt for added warmth. A number of students are coming to school wearing puffer jackets, which are not acceptable. We understand that it is cold, and advise that students layer-up on the inside; school jumper or school jacket must be what is visible. Thank you to all families for your continued support of the college uniform policy.

To assist families who cannot get to the uniform shop, students can purchase navy blue tights and ties at the general office, for $15 and $20 respectively.
