Swan Districts Visit

The Big Days Before Game Days At Swan Districts FC

On a sunny Thursday evening a group of Boarders were treated to a behind-the-scenes visit to Swan Districts Football Club.  Mr Shane Beros, High Performance/Justice Manager at Swan Districts took the time to show the boys around the club.  He has a wealth of knowledge of the operations and history of Swan Districts and he shared many great stories.

Accompanied by our own footy star and Head of Boarding, Tom Floyd, the boarders were thrilled for Shane Beros to lift the curtain on what went on behind the scenes on and off the ball at the club. A highlight was getting the backstage pass to explore the clubrooms, including seeing where the action happens in the coach’s box and the flash view from the President’s box. Hitting the siren may have shocked the neighbours around Steel Blue Oval but it was a real blast for the boys.

It was a treat to see Nathan Blakely, brother of Freo’s Connor Blakely, reviewing video footage of his recent performance. It really highlighted how much goes into a game before and after it! They rubbed shoulders with the movers and shakers of the club during a debrief from League Coach Adam Pickering.

The delegation were put through their paces during an impromptu training session with the team before facing off for a short scratch match. We’ll call the game a solid draw at the whistle… though the Swan’s may not have been running at full steam. The whole delegation got a kick (and had one) with Mazenod old boy, Corey Gault making himself known. Not that the boys needed any help spotting him in the team!

After their tour, training session and scratch match, the club shouted the boarders a pile of pizzas to recharge with a great evening to yarn about, they walked away with a bit of merchandise and free-entry coupons to upcoming games.

The event was great opportunity to experience the club, with a real focus on commitment  teamwork.

Another round of boarders will visit next Thursday so look out Swan Districts they’ll be in training for their scratch match!

The Club will continue to work with Mazenod to create service learning opportunities, including bringing keen boarders down on match day to join in the running of a game day from running a sausage sizzle, running water to tailing coaches and players.

A big thanks to Shane Beros and everyone at Swan Districts!
