It is finals time for the older teams in Lesmurdie-Mazenod Junior Cricket Club!

The Under 13 derby final commenced at the Home of Cricket in the Hills (Ray Owen Reserve) on Saturday with LMJCC Gold winning the toss and asking LMJCC Blue to bat. A very large crowd was on hand to see both sides slog it out in conditions more reminiscent of the football season that is around the corner. Through consistent drizzle and a wet pitch LMJCC U13 Blue finished their innings at 160, which was a good effort under the conditions. Jevan Buckland was the best of the batsmen with 36 not out. A fantastic finish to the final awaits with fine weather forecast and the game in the balance. The game resumes this Saturday at Ray Owen Reserve from 8.30am.

Our U17 Gold side also commenced their two-day final against Riverton Rossmoyne JCC at Riverton Reserve. The club is looking to make it a hat-trick of premierships in this age group. Full report and scores will be in next week’s newsletter.

Finally, the U17 Blue team commenced their finals campaign in the one-day format with a 30-over game against Canning Vale at Ray Owen Reserve on Sunday. After losing the toss and fielding first, Canning Vale had a fast start through their openers and were in a good position at 0/48 off 8 overs. However, from then the U17 LMJCC Blue bowlers did a great job in pulling back the run rate, and with some excellent fielding and outfield catching, dismissed Canning Vale for 123 off the final ball of the 30th over. Daniel Cave (2 for 1 off 3 overs) and Ethan McGrath (2 for 7 off 2 overs) were the best of the bowlers.

In reply, the top order of Shane Nairn, Hayden Della Franca and Ben Adams ensured the side got off to a solid start. At 2/79 the team was coasting, however the dismissal of Will Collins (38) followed by a series of quick wickets saw the game tighten, until Alex Marelich (38 not out) helped see the side to a comfortable win in the 25th over, with some excellent stroke-play and running between the wickets. The U17 Blue side now plays Gosnells in the one-day final at Ray Owen this Sunday commencing at 8am.

Good luck to all of those playing over the weekend.
