Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies – Mount Buffalo Camp
In Week 1 of Term 2, Mount Beauty Secondary College students joined Tallangatta’s Year 12 OES class and participated in a two-day outdoor education program run by the Bogong Outdoor School at Mount Buffalo. The camp aimed to explore societal relationships with outdoor environments reflected in different forms of conservation, recreation, primary industries, and tourism practice.
Day 1 involved rock climbing and abseiling at Catani Crag, an area shaped by giant granite slabs. The experienced instructors from the Bogong Outdoor School, Jamie, and Georgia, provided guidance and equipment for the day. Students climbed and abseiled on a variety of rock faces of varying difficulty. Despite the cold weather, students enjoyed spending time in nature and participating in campfire activities in the evening.
Day 2 saw the students mountain-biking on non-member trails through the pine plantations in Bright. The instructors provided tips on how to handle different terrain and obstacles.
The camp provided a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with nature, challenge themselves physically and mentally, and learn about the societal relationships with outdoor environments. The program was a success, and the students are looking forward to future outdoor education experiences. The school would like to thank Tallangatta Secondary College, Bogong Outdoor School, and Shae, Jamie, and Georgia for their hard work and dedication.
Art - Decorative and Functional
Here are some images of the AT16 classes Hand painted Calico bags.
These bags are inspired by the artists Ken Done (Contemporary Australian artist)
and Henri Matisse (French Fauve artists 1869- 1954).
The focus for this task was to create images that reflected both artist use of bold colours, simple shapes and patterns.
