Student Leadership 2023
GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2023
The school captains, house captains, student leaders and student council attended the GRIP leadership event last Tuesday. Everyone arrived at the train station at 8.00am to catch the train to Flinders Street Station.
The event was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The host Rowan along with other people taught us about leadership for the day, through activities and games such as word searches.
Lots of schools were there from all across Melbourne, and had the oppotunity to get up on stage. At the end of the day we walked back to Flinders Street Station and caught the train back to Ripponlea.
It was a great day to expand our leadership skills and meet other leaders from schools in Melbourne!

UPP: Unleashing Personal Potential
Last week, we had two very special visitors Gil and Jamie from UPP (Unleashing Personal Potential). They introduced us to 'Kid President' and talked to all the 5/6 students about how to be a good leader.
On the day, students completed many activities that were there to help build the team's leadership skills. One of the activities was an epic race where there were a series of challenges like keeping the ball off the ground, the ball and spoon race, a puzzle and more.
Everyone had a BFFT, or a 'best friend for today' which they worked with through the fun activities, it didn't matter if you were friends it helped us to connect and understand that leadership is about working with others. The aim was also to get as many points as you could while learning about leadership.
- 5/6 Leadership Team
This program helped us to understand what leadership really is. Gil and Jamie did heaps of fun activities with us. My favourite activity was the epic race, where we showed our skills as a team. They taught us that leadership was not a position, and that anyone can be a leader. Thank you to the people from the UPP program for teaching us about leadership.

While we were UPP not only did we have lots of fun we learned a lot about what sort of leader we are and how to improve. Before recess, we learned how to be an 'others' first leader, put others first, and not let our minds stop us. After recess, we did the EPIC race and learned about A.S.P.I.R.E which stands for A- Action S - Serve P -Persist I -Influence R- Respect and E- for encourage.
After lunch, we went outside and learnt about what sort of leaders we can be. A prophet leader creates ideas and has an open mind. A planner leader gets the prophet leader’s idea and helps them to organise things and the last leader, a people’s leader will go around and ask people if they need anything. So as you can see we had a pretty fun day at UPP !
