Primary School

From the Head of Primary

Welcome back to Term Two! Our Primary School teachers have enjoyed catching up with our families after the break and the students have quickly settled into the new term. Each teacher has spent the holidays preparing exciting units of work and setting up our classrooms for engaging learning experiences. Below is a summary of the units of work each year level will be completing, guided by the inquiry cycle process. This is an exciting and innovative way to teach that ensures our students explicitly learn the required curriculum whilst being given the chance to action these new skills in an authentic, engaging and relevant way, and – most of all – spark their own curiosities and instil them with critical thinking skills.

  • Kindergarten: A constructed environment (farm) contributes to our world.
  • Pre-Primary: Our thoughts, ideas and feelings can be communicated in different ways.
  • Year One: What are the different features of playgrounds and parks?
  • Year Two: Different materials can be combined for a particular purpose.
  • Year Three: Location influences climate and climate influences communities.
  • Year Four: Earth’s surface changes over time as a result of natural processes and human activity.
  • Year Five: Exploration and ingenuity can lead to significant change.
  • Year Six: Migration is the response to challenge and opportunity.

Horizons

Horizons this term will run a little differently due to staff availability and winter sports. A letter was sent out yesterday listing the cocurricular opportunities for Term Two, and we asked that Horizons nominations are in by Friday to allow time to sort groups for a Week Two start.

  • Tuesday: French Club (10 students from Years Two to Four with Ms Emilie Le’Floch)
  • Wednesday: Technologies Club (Years One to Six with Mr Geoff Hardey) | Circus Skills (Years Three to Six with Ms Gracie Laneaux-Neale) | Art Club (Kindergarten to Year Two with Ms Angela Diletti)
  • Thursday: Strength and Conditioning (Years Five to Six with Mr Paul Osborne)

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

We are pleased to announce that OSHC will begin on Monday 15 May in our Kindergarten classroom. Students can do both OSHC and Horizons. They will check in with OSHC before attending Horizons, then check back in if needed.

Ms Preity Dhaliwal, from The Village OSHC,  will be in the ECC foyer on Tuesday 2 May prior to afternoon pick-up and on Friday 5 May at drop-off time to answer any questions you may have.

For booking and enrolment enquiries, please contact Preity 0466 080 593 or preitydhaliwal@gmail.com

2023 ‘RUOK?’ Whole School Interhouse Cross Country

Mrs Deb de Jonge, Ms Liz Stewart and Mr Paul Osborne have been working hard to plan and mark out the track, and train our students ready for next Wednesday 3 May. I look forward to seeing parents for a 9.15am start with our Year One students, concluding with our Year Six students. The Primary School Cross Country races will be finished at 11.45am for presentations to begin. Students are encouraged to wear their House coloured shirts, and bring a change of shoes and clothes. We are still looking for parent helpers. Please email Deb de Jonge deb.dejonge@gsg.wa.edu.au if you are able to assist on the day.

Orienteering

Next Thursday a team of fit, methodical and competent navigators from Years Five and Six will take on the Interschool Orienteering challenge at the North Road ovals. Thank you, Mr Hardey, for taking on the team and adequately preparing them for this.

Lastly, a thank you to our Primary School Leaders, Macy and Jessie, for attending the ANZAC Day March and service; thank you for helping GSG commemorate a special day on the calendar.

A busy and exciting term awaits.

Mrs Leah Field | Head of Primary
