Prep

Dear Prep families,

Welcome back to Term Two. We hope that everyone enjoyed a well deserved rest over the term break.

It was wonderful witnessing students quickly adapting back to school routines and expectations from the very first day of Term Two. There have been many conversations about adventures students experienced over the break and very excited students reuniting with friends.

We acknowledged ANZAC day by listening to the story ‘ANZAC Ted’ by Belinda Landsberry.  Anzac Ted is a story of a little boy's teddy bear that was passed down to him from his grandfather. Battered, torn, missing an eye and an ear, he might look scary but he had a great story to tell. Anzac Ted went to war, keeping soldiers’ company and giving them comfort. Students made poppies and wore them to our special ANZAC School Assembly. We were grateful to have Officer Luke Sweeney as a guest speaker and we thank him for his beautiful speech.

Reading

In Reading, students have been revising Reading Strategies and have experienced guided reading groups and conferences with their teacher. Students have been reflective learners while discussing reading goals and strategies to support them to further achieve in reading.

Writing

In Writing, we continue to focus on correctly constructing a sentence that begins with a capital letter, has spaces between each word, and letters are formed correctly and sitting on the correct line. Consideration to spelling words correctly has been a focus by using strategies such as - referring to key ring words and pulling the words apart and listening to the sounds made before identifying the letter and writing it. We then end the sentence with a punctuation mark and reread to ensure it makes sense.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have begun a new topic of 2D shapes. There has been a great deal of exploring to identify shapes in objects within our school community. Students had the opportunity to use their iPads to document their findings by taking photos of the objects, and then discussing with their peers, what shape they identified.

Student Led Three-Way Conferences

Students will have the opportunity to share their learning with their parents and carers on Tuesday 9 May, in order to celebrate their learning growth and to further solidify our home/school collaboration. We look forward to seeing you next week to celebrate your child's learning progress.

Inquiry Unit of Study

Our current inquiry is all about the Central Idea that many things impact who we are in communities.

The lines of Inquiry that our Prep students are currently learning about include:

-an inquiry into the relationships in communities.

-an inquiry into the wellbeing of themselves and other community members.

-an inquiry into different beliefs and values within a community.
