Year One

Hello, Year One Families,  

We would like to say a massive welcome back to the school for Term Two. 

Reading 

In Reading, we have been looking at questioning and have learnt what the difference is between an open and a closed question. Closed questions are questions that can only be answered with a 'yes' or 'no' response. Open questions are questions that can’t be answered with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response. They invite longer responses and encourage people to develop points and go into detail.

Writing 

In Writing, students continued to create different types of poems. We looked at ‘Inside and Outside' Poems and ‘5 Senses’ Poems. When creating the '5 Senses' Poem, students had to visualise what they would experience through their senses while at the beach. Students were encouraged and supported to use descriptive language to add interesting details to their poems.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have been learning about Number and Algebra as well as Statistics and Probability.  In Number and Algebra, we continued looking at addition strategies, such as doubling numbers from 1-10. In Statistics and Probability, we continued creating bar graphs to display data we had collected from our peers. We also completed an Essential Assessment pre-test on Subtraction. The data collected from this pre-test will inform our teaching program and help us to ensure that we are planning and teaching to each students’ point of need.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, our students investigated different strategies on how to regulate their own emotions. This supports their social and emotional learning, by helping them recognise how their body and mind are feeling. It also equips them with different tools/ideas that they can use when they need to regulate their emotions. 

Reminders:

• School begins at 8:30am, with continuous entry from 8:20 am. Please be on time as learning begins promptly at 8:30am.
• Late arrivals (8:40am onwards) require a late pass.
• Absences – If your child is away, please remember to upload your reasons on Xuno; please reach out to the office if you need support doing this.
• Students are to be completing their spelling homework every week.
• Students should also be reading their 'take home readers' each night.
• Please remember to bring in a fully charged iPad to school each day.
