Our theme for this year

Together with God we can grow in

COURAGE, KINDNESS, CREATIVITY & COMPASSION

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2, a short nine week term, but an incredibly important term. We hope that all families had a good break and have come back feeling refreshed and ready for a new school term.  We thank Rebecca C. for running our School ANZAC Day memorial service. It is so important that we continue to instill in our future generations a respect for the ANZACs and continue to commemorate this special day.

On Thursday the Year 6 students accompanied by Rebecca and myself to Templestowe Memorial Park.  Thank you Year 6 students for being respectful and reverent at the ANZAC School Service and beautifully represented the St. Kevin’s school community.

ANZAC Day 2023: A Service to Remember

Our Year 6 Leaders recently attended the ANZAC Day School Service at the Templestowe ANZAC Memorial Shrine. The service was led by Menzies MP Keith Wolahan, the Mayor of Manningham City Council, and many members of the Rotary Club.

After a lovely welcome, Keith Wolahan MP  presented a moving speech about the importance of appreciating our country and the people who died fighting for it. The wreath laying ceremony was held, in which representatives for each school laid down a wreath at the base of the shrine, including our own wonderful School Captains, Poppy and Bridget. The Last Ode was recited before the minute’s silence, and all the schools finished up with some quick photos and refreshments!

I greatly appreciate the opportunity I had to attend the  ceremony. All the speakers were lovely people and I very much enjoyed it!

NCCD Information Sheet for Parents and Caregivers

The Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards) require that schools communicate with students with disability, or their parents, guardians or carers about adjustments that the student receives. They have an important role in these discussions.

Please read the attached flyer for Parents and Carers which gives an explanation of the role the school has in relation to Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).

NCCD Information Sheet for Parents, Guardians and Carers

WHAT IS THE NCCD?

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year in August.

The NCCD is a collection that counts:

• the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability

• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Schools provide this information to education authorities.

School Cleaners

Tourwood’s St Kevin’s completed their work at St Kevin’s in at the end of the term holidays.

iClean have commenced work at St Kevin’s and we have been so impressed this last week with the cleaners attention to detail.  We look forward to a clean and safe place to work and play.

Traffic and Crossing

I have commenced the process for the placement of a Pedestrian Crossing in front of the school.  There have been some dangerous incidents and I feel we need a safer alternative for students, parents and grandparents to cross the road.   As I hear more I will keep you informed.

It is so important that everyone gets onto it ASAP.  I will continue to send daily reminders to parents who have not joined Compass.

Information clip by all teachers

Each parent on Compass has been sent a youtube link clip created by the teachers (classroom, specialist and leaders).  This outlined classroom practices and routines, as well as expectations, academic and social.

I sincerely hope that each of you takes the time to watch these clips.  It might be a good conversation starter for you and your children to discuss expectations for this term.  Please give us some feedback. gleone@sktemplestowelr.catholic.edu.au

Remember to be cyber safe.   The link has been posted on Compass. These clips will disappear on the 12th of May.
