You're In Good Hands

Sick Bay News

What am I?

I am the size of a sesame seed and survive on blood.

I can live for 30 days and lay around 6 eggs a day.

I have hook like claws, 6 legs and can hold on to hair with great might.

I live in hair.

I don’t discriminate between dirty, colored, clean, long, short, one stranded hair types.

I thrive under a warm sweaty beanie environment.

I cannot hop or fly so I get around in hats, scarves, coats, combs, brushes or towels or when humans are close together, touching heads, swapping hats, swinging their loose hair around and even rolling on the floor.

I make myself known by making you scratch and scratch and scratch.

Even the thought of me makes you scratch and scratch and scratch.

Do you know what I am?

Unfortunately, Malvern Primary School has been infested with Head Lice over the last couple of weeks and even though there have been compass notifications sent out on how to eradicate them, the little critters keep reappearing.

It takes 5 mins to check

Step 1. Comb hair conditioner onto dry, brushed (detangled) hair. This makes it difficult for lice to grip the hair or run around.

Step 2. Thoroughly comb sections of the hair with a fine tooth head lice comb.

Step 3. Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or tissue.

Step 4. Look on the tissue and on the comb for lice and eggs.

Step 5. If lice or eggs are found, treat immediately

How do I treat Head Lice? There are several options

1. Call Krysia Mosley on 0410 131 646 for her mobile head lice treatment or

2. Go to your local supermarket and or pharmacy for headlice products, or

3. Make an appointment to “Hairy’s House” at 4 Barkley Ave Armadale for a full head lice treatment.  What Next?

  • Long hair should be in a plait or tied back in a bun
  • Check hair regularly using the hair conditioner method above
  • Ask your children to avoid sharing hats and or rubbing heads together

A huge thank you from the Malvern Primary School Team in supporting our mission to ensure every child has a nit free day.

Regards
