Student Activities

Queer Alliance has been running for nearly a year at Vermont Secondary College. This group meets at lunch each week and supports LGBTQIA+ students and their allies. When we meet, we discuss issues that affect queer students, make time and space to catch up, recognise special days, like IDAHOBIT Day, and work on projects within the school.

This term we have collaborated with the Heath and PE team. The team provided us with an opportunity to seek feedback on the content and learning tasks used in the Year 9 unit on “Gender and Sexuality”. Students reviewed the content in the power-point presentations, participated in some of the learning activities and watched some of the videos. They then provided feedback and the Health and PE team visited our group and have taken this feedback onboard.

The Health and PE team have worked incredibly hard to create a course that is engaging and inclusive and it was wonderful to see the Queer Alliance students excited about the content covered and activities included in Health and PE this year.

The Health and PE team have been receptive and open to the feedback form the Queer Alliance students and it has been a pleasure watching this collaboration take place. Students have been given voice and agency in shaping their curriculum. Thanks to all staff and students involved and all the work put in this term.
