Year 8 News

Vermont Secondary College

Year 8 Student Managers always try to promote the optimal health and wellbeing of our cohort. In light of this, we encourage students to be responsible when using ICT platforms both at school and in the community. We are proud of our students and our college name.

The Year 8 Student Management Team wish to remind our cohort of the Dangers of Digital Footprint Online activity.  Everyone’s digital footprint can be monitored by potential employers, educational institutions, and even hackers. Inappropriate or controversial content can harm an individual's reputation or lead to identity theft, cyberbullying, or other forms of online harassment.

The Golden Rule is: never share your name or password with anybody! Never share personal information (address, phone, school name, sports club). Be polite and treat others the way you would like to be treated!

We remind our students and families to check

Compass over the weekend for the roll over of the new semester 2 timetable. Check carefully, particularly for PE days. New rooms may also be assigned.

All the best for the new Semester, from Mr. Duiveman, Ms Bird & Mr Pearson.

Year 8 Subject Selection Process

Although it may seem a long way off, students will begin the process of researching information and selecting their electives for 2024 at the beginning of term 3.

  • Year 8 students will have a student assembly to explain the process of selecting electives in Week 1 of term 3. This presentation will be recorded and posted on the website so that parents can be informed of all of the relevant information.
  • Web Preference (our software program that students enter their elective choices in) will open on Friday July 21st for all students.
  • Students will need to have their elective choices submitted on Web Preferences by Wednesday August 9th.
