Year 7 News  

It has been a busy few weeks in the Year 7 world !

As we come to the halfway point of the School year there have been many exiting events to report on and a few to look forward to in the future.

On Thursday June 8th Year 7 students went out to represent Vermont Secondary College at round robin sport. The day was a huge success with students demonstrating the Vermont Values in their efforts in each sport. For a full recap of the day see the sport section.

Year 7 student leaders attended the PROJECT ROCKIT session on Wednesday June 14th as part of the Junior Leadership workshop. PROJECT ROCKIT is Australia's youth-driven movement against bullying, hate and prejudice. The organisation is founded on the vision of a world where kindness and respect thrive over bullying, hate and prejudice, and all young people are free to realise their potential. PROJECT ROCKIT ditches the labels of 'bully' and 'victim' and instead approach bullying (online or offline) as a behaviour. This framing allows room for growth and invites every student to meet their positive social potential, irrespective of past experiences. In navigating difficult issues, Project Rockit adopts a strengths-based, future-focused approach to support psychological safety while working with a whole peer cohort.

In this interactive session students completed a series of activities to explore the consequences of behaviour both online and in person, the student leaders who attended the session are now equipped to share the valuable lessons they have learned with the rest of the cohort to promote positive change for all Year 7 students. A big thanks to Kerri Simpson for organising this experience and for the year 7 Students and Leaders who attended the Project Rockit session.

Next week marks not only the end of term two but the end of Semester one, in the last week of this term, semester two starts and year 7 students will start their exiting new Semester based subjects. This is also a time for year 7 students to reflect on the outstanding start to High School at Vermont Secondary College and the completion of the first half of Year 7.
