TEAM VIC – Archie D

Congratulations to year 9 student Archie D for his selection as part of the Team Victoria U15 boys Australian Football Squad. Archie has been listed as emergency for the competition to be held later this year. Fingers crossed he gets a call up. Well done Archie on this great achievement.

YEAR 8 ROUND ROBIN

Girls Soccer

On Friday the 2nd of June, the Year 8 girls soccer team competed in many matches of soccer. The girls used teamwork and used their voices to communicate throughout the day and overall everyone had an outstanding day. Unfortunately the girls came home without an invitation to the next round but everyone tried there hardest and most importantly had lots of fun! Written by Naz.

Boys/Mixed Soccer

On the 2nd of June the vivacious Year 8 boys soccer team travelled to Monash University to test their soccer skills against the top teams of the Waverly division. The team showed their expertise by steam rolling Mount Waverley 6-0 and conquering Glen Waverley 3-0. The toughest game of the day saw the team come up against Highvale, where, despite the skills of Jaiden D and Radin M, the team suffered a heartbreaking 0-1 loss. Watch this space as big things are coming next year. Thanks to Ms Muirden for leading the team. Ollie L and Will G, Coaches.

Badminton

On 02/06, four teams of year 8 students went to Kilsyth Sports Centre to play against other schools in Badminton. Although we put up a good fight, ultimately, we placed fourth (out of four schools). Despite the strong (state level) adversaries we were faced against, our players still gave it their all. Everyone had a great time, some even made new friends. It was excellent to see our students demonstrate a high level of sportsmanship and proudly represent our school. Well done to the whole team!

Boys Football

On the 02/06 Yr 8 boys participated in our district AFL competition. We had a great day winning all 3 games by clear margins. Game one was against Glen Waverley and we won 21 to 7. Game 2 resulted in an easy win against Highvale 43 to 1. The final match was a close contest although the scores did not reflect this, 28 to 3. The whole team contributed well and applied great defensive pressure throughout the day. Aiden and Harrison lead the team well as co captains and Zac, Ty and Harrison were amongst the best players. The team can be proud of the way they played the games representing Vermont with distinction. The team will move on to the next round next term.

Girls Netball

Year 8 Girls had 3 teams represent Vermont in Netball on Friday 2nd June. Our students did the school proud with their team work, courage and determination throughout the day. The A team did a tremendous job and beat every side quite convincingly being the champions for the day.

The B competition was a little closer with both Vermont B and Vermont C competing, Vermont C got an upset early beating the B Team in a tight contest in the early rounds. Both teams progressed through to the final the B Team got the win on the day taking out the grand final to win the B section.

Super proud of all the girls and how they competed on the day.

YEAR 7 ROUND ROBIN

Girls Soccer

What a day to remember! Congratulations to the year 7 girls soccer team who had an amazing day out with 3 games. We lost our first game against Mount Waverly Secondary by 1 goal. It was so close! Our second game against Highvale, we won 0-3. This was a well-deserved win. The girls worked so well together and showed great improvement on the field. Our third game against Glen Waverly, we drew 1-1. It is safe to say that even though everyone was exhausted, we never gave up until the very last second of the game. Thank you to our team captains, Ruby M., and Jemimah S. from year 7 for leading our team. Thank you to Arwa M. from Year 11 and Nazia A. from year 10 for coaching the girls during lunch times and on the day, teaching them skills and drills, but most importantly by being great role models. Lasty, thank you to Alyssa B., Siri K., Perri L., Queeny L., Mia L., Annika L., Georgia M., Nandini N., Madi P., Sophie R., Charlotte R., Yulia T., and Tanisha V. for working amazingly hard as a team and putting your best foot forward.

Boys/Mixed Soccer

On the 6th of August, the year 7 Vermont Boys soccer team progressed to regionals after a sensational day at Monash University (Clayton Campus).

Our 1st game was against Mount Waverley Secondary school, it was our toughest game. After an exciting half, the score was 0-0. At the start of the second half, we got a penalty, and our captain Valerio D took the shot, unfortunately he drove the ball just wide. We got another penalty after a chaos in the box, Sherlock H took the shot and put it in the right corner of the net. 1-0. Mount Waverley soon equalized after a penetrating pass in the box and Paxton W accidentally put the ball into his own goal. Mount Waverley took the chance and scored another goal and made it 2-1. Fortunately, in a chaos in the box, Craig C equalized with a breathtaking volley.

The game ended with the scores being 2-2.

Our 2nd game was against Highvale Secondary College, we started the game well with a goal scored by Craig C, a great through ball gave us our second goal scored by Valerio D. The half ended after Craig C scoring another goal to make it 3-0. We scored another goal after a wonderful finish from Valerio. The game ended after Craig C scoring a wonderful goal to complete his hat trick. 5-0

Our 3rd game was against Glen Waverley Secondary College, we needed at least 3 goals to progress to regionals. Alvin scored the first goal of the game, everyone was doing their best, our second goal was scored by Jenson after a wonderful run. Half time 2-0. We started the second half with another goal from Alvin, everyone celebrated since we are through to regionals, but the game was not over, Craig scored another goal sealing the game.

Overall, we had a wonderful day and we progressed since we scored more goals then Mount Waverley. Everyone who participated did a great job and should be very proud of themselves. Thanks to Mr Duiveman, Jaiden D and Radin for coaching us.

Badminton

The year 7 badminton teams had a great day out with super coach Josh assisted by the terrific Ms Lyon. The girls A team placed equal first with Mount Waverley but were unsuccessful in progressing due to a countback.  Thanks to all for participating and giving it their best!

Boys Football

Thursday 8/6 proved to a good day for a kick. Although the Wellington Reserve surface was a glue pot of mud and water mixed to create slow, bogged down footy, our Team triumphed and had a marvellous day.

Game 1, VSC 11-7-73 d GWSC 0-0-0

10 multiple goals kickers. I’ve never seen such a packed goal front. Seagulls chasing a chip on the beach could not have done better.

Game 2, VSC 9-19-73 d HSC 0-0-0

Did I mention seagulls and chips. It got so crowded at the goal front, we needed Plugger to come out of retirement and create some space. Boys were having shots from all over the ground. Clearly more handball and sharing of the footy was required for the grand final against MWSC.

Grand Final, VSC 1-2-8 d MWSC 0-0-0

A hard fought win, in a contest, that was simply a slog.

Well played VSC yr 7s. Some lessons learnt about sharing the footy but when it mattered most our players were terrific.

Thank you to Lachlan, Liam and motivational speaker Aiden for coaching on the day.

Girls Netball

Vermont girls netball had a cracking day at Mullum Mullum Stadium winning the A and B competitions. Vermont’s C team placed 3rd in the B competition. Well done to all involved!

INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

Girls Soccer

The intermediate girls played some very good soccer and only improved as the day progressed. Unfortunately, we lost our first match to the eventual winners of the round robin but played an excellent second match for a 6-1 win. The last game was a hard-fought game with the opposition scoring in the last minute to draw the match. The improvement through the day and the continued effort in all the matches was fantastic to see.

Boys Soccer

The intermediate boys represented their school proudly and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. Unfortunately, things didn’t go our way resulting in a last-minute round one loss that proved the difference between making it to the next round. The boys should be commended on their great effort and encouraged to prepare for next year!
