Our HSC Library inspiring literary creativity

It has been delightful how our students attempt to create and submit literary pieces since we started the Highvale Writers’ Club. The following poem has been an inspiring team effort from Josie Q. (Y10.5) who wrote the original piece; Evangeline E. (Y11.2) who supported with tweaking it around positively; and Martin K. (Y10.3) with Daniel B. (Y10.1) who worked together to create “cute” elf. Well done amazing HSC poets and artists!

AN ELF’S DESIRES

(Josie Q. and team)

I am an elf.

A trickster, a hooligan, a scam

I elf around

With no other business other than Santa's.

I am his Janitor.

But deep inside, dreams whisper in me

Waiting to shine with purpose and glee!

Taneisha’s Amazing Artistic Creations

Excited Taneisha K. (Y10.1) shares her original drawings (described in order): a man thinking about or interested in space; a cute character inspired by Anime; character named LISA or LALISA from K-Pop Band Blackpink; Kim Taehyung or V; Kim Namjoon or RM both from BTS K-Pop Band; a drawing for her mother’s birthday.

Reading Challenge Update

We still 80 days left before the finish of the Reading Challenge so it is never too late to get “wild about reading”. Can you guess why these books are TOP FAVOURITES of VPRC participants? Why not borrow and enjoy these books for the school holidays and after!

Snippets of news from the State Library Victoria

While attending the 125th Philippine Independence Day at the Isabella Fraser Room of the State Library, it was a real treat networking with a couple of the SLV Librarians and Support Personnel while passing through the deafeningly silent 100 - year old La Trobe Reading Room that is six-storey high and can house 32,000 books!

Did you know that the Isabella Fraser Room was named after SLV’s first-listed female staff member? It is located next to the Victoria Gallery Exhibition Room, certainly worth a visit.

Please enjoy some photos taken (with permission to also publish) during this magical SLV visit (after work) with the Librarians extending an open invitation to explore this “world of information and stories … free tours, exhibitions, events and family fun” especially during the school holidays for our students to enjoy the magnificent STATE LIBRARY VICTORIA, Australia’s oldest and most popular library.

Please visit SLV website for more information.  https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/
