NAIDOC Week at Marion
How we celebrated
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
This week, we have had so many wonderful things happening at our school. Take a look at the photos below:
Thank you very much to so many wonderful people...
I would like to pass on my absolute thanks and appreciation to all of our school community, but in particular to a few that really helped to make this such a special week at Marion.
- To Michael Laing our ACEO - thank you so much for all of your hard work, support and tireless efforts behind the scenes to make the week a huge success, even when unwell and not able to make it into school
- To Mrs Waterman and all of the students in Room 10 - thanks for all of your hardwork in organising the NAIDOC Week Assembly
- To Wayne Campbell - thank you for your wonderful Welcome to Country to open our assembly
- To Mrs Sifa - thank you for the work on our Reconciliation puzzle (as above) that was worked on with all students and staff and for your amazing leading of the Taba Naba dance with us all at Assembly
- To Adrianne - thank you for coming and sharing the work you do on our country and the cultural connection your dance company and you have with our local community. Your video was amazing and a wonderful showcase!
- To Roxanne and Kaitlyn - thank you so much for donating your time and working with us to create our amazing Marion Primary School NAIDOC Week canvas artwork (as above). It has come up so well and we cannot wait to showcase it at our school!
This was a wonderful week and a great way to wrap up a fantastic term.
Many thanks to everyone!
