Leadership Report

Where did that term go?

It is hard to believe we have reached the end of Term 2 and the halfway point of the year already!

On a personal note, it feels like only a week or two ago that I commenced at Marion Primary School starting in my first role as Principal of a school. The time has whizzed past and I have loved every moment of it and all of the support I have had from staff, students, and all our parent body and community. I feel very blessed and fortunate for this opportunity to lead and work as the Principal in such a warm, nurturing, and supportive school. I am very excited about what the future holds at our school and look forward to continuing to work with our entire school community.

Reminder...safety with drop off and pick ups

Over the past few weeks, we have had some near misses at drop off and pickup times with our students. With the very unfortunate accident in town some weeks ago, it is a timely reminder to please ensure the safety of all of our students at pickup and drop off times.

Although we are fortunate that our nearby roads are not usually busy, they certainly get their fair share of traffic and congestion around morning and afternoon school times. Please ensure that you are fully parked and your children exit the car on the footpath side only. Make sure you cross the road with your little ones and model the correct ways to cross with them. Only the other day, I witnessed one of our little ones run across the road unassisted without looking and a car having to brake heavily to avoid hitting them. We want to keep all of our children safe and can all play our part in ensuring this is the case. Please speak with your children about the importance of road safety and help us to keep everyone safe!

NAIDOC Week

This week is NAIDOC Week and we have been celebrating this in many ways at our school. Please have a look at our special NAIDOC Week page to enjoy some of the wonderful activities and ways we have helped recognise the immense significance of this week at our school.

Reports home this week

On Wednesday, Semester 1 reports went home to all families. I hope you have had many positive and meaningful conversations that will continue supporting all of our children in their learning journey and progression.

Term 3 upcoming events

Next term, we have some really exciting events taking place for students at our school.

We have Footsteps Dance sessions happening each Friday all term, a visit from the Adelaide Strikers and Australian Dance Theatre in Week 5, Swimming in Week 6 and our School Photos in Week 7.

Change in school days

Just a reminder to all families, our school days will change from Day 1, Term 3 (Monday 24th July). Below is the key information:

  • 8:25am - Start of before-school supervision
  • 8:45am - School bell rings for the commencement of the school day
  • 3:05pm - End of the school day

Happy holidays

Finally, thank you to all of our families for all of your support throughout the term and in the first half of the year. The Marion Primary School community is always warm, embracing and supportive of everything we do. We would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday… please take the time to rest, enjoy time with families and do the things that make you happy. We look forward to seeing all our families and students back to start Term 3 on Monday 24th July 2023 (please note there is NO Pupil Free Day to commence Term 3).

Warmest regards and happy holidays,

Guy Walmsley
