Our Cultural Identity

This week the students in 1/2 UR learnt and explored their cultural background and learnt about family traditions. They took some time to think about their family’s history and understood that Australia is made up of people from different cultural backgrounds. They listened to the book I’m Australian too by Mem Fox and discussed some connections they could make between the book and their own families.

Students were then able to locate cities and countries that they had ties to on a map of the world. Some students shared stories that their parents or grandparents had told them about coming to Australia and students learnt that many of their peers had families who came from different places like, Vietnam, Ethiopia, England and Japan. Students wrote about their backgrounds and added it to the world map.
