STEM Week at Magill
STEM Week at Magill School
What is STEM?
STEM Learning refers collectively to the disciplines of Science, Technology and Mathematics integrated with Engineering as a process to solve problems involving complex thinking. STEM Learning encompasses cross-disciplinary approaches to learning that increase learner dispositions in STEM related fields and their development of skills in problem solving, creative thinking and critical analysis.
STEM isn't a 'thing we do' but a way in which our teachers engage students in their learning. The critical and creative thinking skills that we aim to develop in our students are the life-long learning skills that will stay with students well beyond the topic of learning, and the year in which they engaged with it.
In collaboration with National Science Week celebrations, classes have focused on STEM learning and participated in activities with their Buddy Classes.
Along with our focus on STEM activities in the classroom, students from Reception to Year 6 were invited to enter our STEM Competition. Students were asked to design an entry focusing on the theme 'Window to the Future'. There were an outstanding collection of entries across all year levels - but it is with great pleasure that we share our year level winners!
