Charnwood Camp

Last week the Grade 5/6 students made the trip to Charnwood Camp near Mansfield for a fun camp. On the first day we had the opportunity to have a go on the Flying Fox and some great party games after dinner. Day two was SNOW DAY!!! We had an AWESOME time at the snow building snowmen, riding the toboggan and having snowball fights. We rounded out the camp with some archery and damper making. Lots of fun was had by all!

Academy of Creative Arts

We had some students from BSE come to visit us this week. They were part of the Academy of Creative Arts and came to talk to us about the great opportunities involved with being part of this community. They are all very talented and shared different types of art with us: dance, drama, singing, instrumental, visual.

Upcoming Fortnight

In reading we will be looking at the strategies of 'recognise unique features in texts and how they can be applied to our own writing' and 'use dictionaries, glossaries, or electronics to define words' to improve our knowledge. We have already listened to some great memoirs, poems and works of fiction about First Nations people as part of our Reader's Notebook, Meet Me at the Intersection. We will continue this into our upcoming fortnight.

We continue to look at Narrative writing over the next fortnight in the lead up to our fourth Cold Write for the year. We will be encouraging students to look at new and creative ways to structure their works of fiction and transfer this knowledge into the assessment piece, along with their own personal writing goals.

In Mathematics, the students have continued to make great progress with 50s Club. It has been fantastic to see students pass a level and produce personal best times. We have started our unit on Money and Financial Mathematics. This area of the curriculum is so important and helps students develop skills they need now and will continue to use in the future. Providing students with additional opportunities to exercise their money understanding is important, looking at counting money, determining correct change and building towards understanding best buys at the supermarket.
