Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It is wonderful to be back at school with the children and staff for the second half of the year! We have much to look forward to once again, both in and out of the learning spaces. Our Grandparents’ Day, Fathers’ Day, School Concert, Rock Band and Choir Performance and Learning Conversations to name a few. Many of our children will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and one of my favourites - Foundation Meetings.
We had a big celebration for our Feast Day on the last day of term. Thank you to Fr John and Year 5/6 for the lovely Mass we celebrated with our parish. Following Mass all the children spent time learning about the story of our school and parish. It was especially nice to welcome Sr Eileen Reardon and Sr Pam Barlow, both Mercy Sisters who had all the children intrigued with their stories about Sacred Heart’s past and the life of a nun. Thank you, Sr Pat and Sr Eileen. Everyone also spent time learning about their house, McAuley, Geary or Frayne, and our Founding Sisters. We also had a disco, coloured clothes day and lots of other activities to celebrate a great Term 2 and the Feast of the Sacred Heart.
Thank you to everyone who so generously donated items for our Winter Appeal. Lots of much needed food was collected by St Vinnies and taken to be distributed amongst our local community. In the true spirit of the Sacred Heart and our Mercy Values we were able to help others most in need. Thank you for your generosity.
Despite these cold mornings, it’s great to see most of our children arriving at school on time each morning so they can get themselves organised and be ready for the day ahead. Thank you to parents for establishing these vitally important routines. It is essential that a smooth start to the day is established so that children are given every opportunity to participate fully in their learning. We ask that you continue to ensure that the children arrive on time ready to start their day by at least at 8:55am. It is interesting to note that even arriving 10 minutes late a day adds up to 50 minutes a week which is equivalent to one and a half weeks of valuable learning time each year. If you do have difficulty getting your child to school at any time, please discuss this with their teachers and we can support you with this.
Learning Conversations have been taking place this week. These conversations are an important opportunity for you to sit with your child and their teacher and discuss the achievements and challenges of the first semester and set goals and actions for the remaining terms. Everything tells us that positive, supportive relationships between the learner, parents and school has strong benefits for your child. Thank you for taking this opportunity. Please contact your child’s teacher if you were unable to attend these Learning Conversations.
2023 Foundation meetings have begun. Meeting our new students and getting to know their families is always such a highlight for me. If families are intending to enrol at Sacred Heart in 2023, we ask that your enrolment application is sent into the school office as soon as possible. If you know your child will not be reenrolling at Sacred Heart in 2023, can you please contact the school office as soon as possible.
You have probably all noticed our lovely new fence on the school boundary. It looks fantastic! Thanks to everyone who bought and sold Easter raffle tickets earlier in the year which has helped pay for the fence. We are going to have another raffle with some wonderful prizes again this term with the money also going towards our new fence. More details soon!
Our children preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will soon commence their preparation and be presented to Sacred Heart Parish this weekend. This is a very important time for each of them and we remember them and their families in our prayers.
A very important event on our school calendar is always Grandparents Day. We are looking forward to welcoming grandparents and special visitors on Friday 5th August. The morning will begin with Mass at 9.15, followed by time to visit classrooms and morning tea in St Mary’s Hall. Everyone is most welcome. Children, please make sure your grandparents have this special date marked in their calendars. We are also planning to have our Fathers’ Day Mass and Breakfast once again. This will be on September 2nd. More details in the coming weeks.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
