HSC English Workshops

Last Thursday, seasoned HSC marker and Into English author, Emily Bosco, delivered a number of Standard and Advanced HSC English workshops focusing on practical strategies for HSC revision. Standard and Advanced Year 12 students joined for a session on Paper 1: Section I - Texts and Human Experiences, which outlined a range of strategies in support of improving time management, and reading with greater speed and precision by using textual form. Students were then guided through a variety of short-answer questions covering different questions types, with modelled responses, to demonstrate how to best compose a response.

To prepare for Section I and Section II of the Paper Two examination, sessions were more text specific with a strong focus on essay writing. Year 12 Advanced students were led through an in-depth revision session for Module B: Critical Study of Literature, and the Standard cohort revised rubric descriptors and prescribed texts for Module B: Close Study of Text and the Common Module.

The English faculty also had the pleasure of attending an Into English Junior English Discursive Writing professional learning session recently with Emily. Aside from being a wonderful day of collegial discussion around suggested strategies for programming and teaching discursive writing in Stage 4 and Stage 5, the English team also appreciated the opportunity to reflect on a variety of thinking routines and protocols for examining and analysing pieces of discursive writing with our students and in line with our AIP goals.
