The Knock-On Effect

Road safety message for NSW teens

On Thursday 4th August, Year 11 students enjoyed a visit from NSW Rugby League ambassadors who have partnered with Transport NSW to deliver ‘The Knock-On Effect’ campaign. The campaign aims to remind young drivers of the importance of making good decisions when choosing when and how to drive. It also served as a reminder for students to speak up if they see their friends making poor decisions in relation to driving.

NSW footy legends Willie Mason and Matt Cooper both shared personal stories of their own experiences of poor decisions leading to driving tragedies in their close circle of friends. Through these stories, students began to understand the ripple, or ‘knock-on’, the effect of these tragedies across communities and the impacts they have on lives for years to come.

As young drivers, the presentation was a timely reminder to students of the responsibilities associated with getting behind the wheel. Some students bold enough to provide answers to questions managed to come away with a signed NSW footy, as well as this powerful message.
