Under 15s Soccer Gala Day

On Tuesday 6th September, the Combined Wagga High Schools U15 Soccer Gala Day was held at Rawlings Park.

The girls played Mater Dei CC first up. It was a close game. Kildare took the lead with a free kick taken by Grace Holaj. MDCC scored an equaliser just before half time and the game finished 1-1. The second game against TRAC was just as close, with neither team able to break the deadlock and the game finished 0-0. Kildare played really well throughout the day and missed out on the final on goals for.

The boys played against Mt Austin High School in their first game. It was a close game with both teams unable to score leaving the game tied 0 - 0 at full time. The second game against TRAC was much harder with the boys, unfortunately, going down 2 - 0. The final game against Mater Dei CC was also a very tough game. The boys played well but were unable to find the back of the net and went down 3 - 0. Overall the team finished 3rd in the gala day but should be extremely proud of the effort they put in.

All Schools Regional

Netball Final

On Monday 5th September, Kildare competed at the Netball NSW All Schools Regional Final and played at Equex.

The Year 7/8 team played schools from Hennessy, Xavier and Tumut High School and won each of our round games. Finishing at the top of our Pool, we played in the semi final against Narrandera High School and won convincingly. Consequently, we were up against Xavier High School from Albury in the Grand Final. It was goal for goal for much of the game, however, we couldn’t quite hold on to win, going down by 1. The girls went into this game with a positive attitude and demonstrated some excellent plays, but the tight tussle got the better of us and Xavier ended up victorious. The girls displayed brilliant sportsmanship and had an enjoyable day.

Our Year 9/10 team had a great start to the day and were undefeated in their round games, beating teams from Albury, Griffith and Tumut. We then played Trinity Anglican College from Albury in the semi-final, who placed second in the other pool. Our girls displayed excellent teamwork and proved too strong for Trinity, winning the match 19 to 9. We then progressed to the Grand Final against Xavier High School from Albury, who we had beaten in the round games by 2 goals earlier in the day. It was a tight contest between the two teams, however, our excellent defensive pressure and sharp shooting resulted in the girls playing their best game of the day, winning the match 18 to 12 and being crowned Regional Champions. As a result, the girls now progress to the State final in Sydney in November. We wish them all the very best of luck.

Wagga Diocesan Basketball

Well done to our four basketball teams who participated in the Wagga Diocesan Basketball competition in Albury on Thursday 11th August. Our Boy's Intermediate team had a win against Marian Catholic College and the Girl's Intermediate team had a win against Mater Dei. While our Junior Boys and Girls had wins against Marian Catholic College and Mater Dei Catholic College.

All teams were very competitive in their other games displaying high skills and excellent sportsmanship!

NSW CCC Girls Rugby League

Congratulations to Shayla Watson, Anabelle Willis and Holly Williams who represented Southern Country in the NSWCCC 16 Girls Rugby League at St Mary's, Sydney this week.

The Southern Country team defeated Northern Country 32-0, Sydney 32-0, and Metropolitan 12-0. Well done on your success and special congratulations to Holly Williams, named as halfback for the Inaugural NSWCCC team.

Year 9 Student Rainer White said the competition was excellent! The Beyond Bank Australian Under 16s Horse Ball World Cup 2022 team won the ‘Best Fair Play Team’ by the FIHB referees and appeals committee.

The Australian under 16s team was the only team in their category to have hired horses, every other nation were able to bring their own. Rainer and the team had a very limited amount of time to get used to the horses they had.

The whole team demonstrated their riding ability, adaptability, and resilience during the competition. Towards the end of the competition the team were becoming very competitive. As Horse Ball is a relatively new sport in Australia, the team hadn’t played any competitive games together before the World Cup.

The team played against Portugal, Spain, Italy and Great Britain. During the week of competition in Saint Lo, France, Rainer made one goal.

Rainer will be off to Equitana, Melbourne, in November to do a showcase at this National Event.

State Semi-Finals Cochrane Cup Rugby League (U14s)

Recently, the KCC U14’s Rugby League Cochrane Cup side travelled to Wollongong to take part in the State Semi-Finals against Edmund Rice College (Wollongong), Red Bend College (Forbes) and St Agnes College (Rooty Hill).

Despite our wardrobe attendant forgetting the shorts for the team, the boys handled this adversity well, to be very competitive in all fixtures on the day.

Our first game was against Edmund Rice College. It was an ultra competitive match with both teams equipping themselves well. Unfortunately, KCC couldn’t quite hold on to a lead in the dying minutes and went down narrowly 14-10. A very solid team effort, with some outstanding individual contributions from Isaac Pratt, Tyler Jordan, Jag Ashcroft & Max Oliver.

Our 2nd fixture against Red Bend College was a tough encounter against a very well drilled and capable outfit. Both teams were very willing and put their bodies on the line in defence and gave 100% for their teams. However, to be fair, Red Bend probably had a slight class edge on our team on the day, and ran out 26-10 winners in a hard fought game. KCC never gave up and I could not fault the players for their application and enthusiasm throughout the game.

In the final fixture, KCC completely outclassed St Agnes College in a lock out of 36-0. A great team effort with many players playing out of position and equipping themselves well in unfamiliar roles.

St Edmunds managed to defeat Redbend College in what was somewhat of an upset to qualify for the State finals.

A very worthwhile trip and experience for all the KCC boys who represented their College with pride and behaved impeccably throughout the excursion.

Tyler Jordan was named players’ player for the day, narrowly defeating Isaac Pratt, who, along with Archie Graham and Max Oliver, were stand out performers throughout the day. However, once again, it was a great team effort by all players and the experience has provided the team with confidence and belief for the years to come.

Hockey News

Over the past 3 weeks, after school, the Girls' and Boys' Hockey teams have been participating in the CWWHSSA hockey competition. The boys showed enormous improvement with every game they played. Even though they drew one game and lost the remainder they should be very proud of their sportsmanship and efforts. The girls' team won all of the round games scoring a massive 14 goals for the competition. Nearly everyone in the team scored at least one goal. Unfortunately, they were unable to score in the grand final against Wagga High so ended up coming second. Well done to all girls who played as a team and on being in the grand final for the first time in 11 years. Special mention to Grace Holaj who played goalie for the first time and did an exceptional job only allowing 2 goals past her for the whole competition and saving many many more.

Shipard Shield Soccer

Throughout Term 3, the Opens Girls Soccer competed in the Shepard Shield. Kildare started strong in the group games beating the Christian College 11-1 with goals from Eleanor Crawford, Ella Harriot (4), Amy Casnave (3), Ella Barrell (2) and Elizabeth Dumpleton. The second saw another convincing win against Korringal HS 7-0, with goals from Ella Harriot, Elizabeth (4) and Eleanor (2). In the semi-finals, KCC came up against a quick team from Wagga HS. The girls fought hard but went down 1-4, with Elizabeth adding another to her tally for the competition. The season's final game was the 3 v 4 playoff against TRAC. Despite missing a few players, Kildare played well but went down 0-1. The team is congratulated for their efforts throughout the season, with special mention to Asha Hastie and Grace Holaj for their contribution to the team.

The Southern Sports Academy has now opened applications for ALL its 2023 sporting programs BASKETBALL, CYCLING, GOLF, HOCKEY, NETBALL and RUGBY.

We are looking for talented and keen athletes to participate in all our programs. There are also positions available for staff who are interested in coaching and helping the next group of young sportspeople progress in their chosen sport.

There are different eligibility criteria and closing dates for each sport, athletes can find this information on the nomination forms at www.ssa-nsw.org.au/Nominations.
