Biotic Factors in the Environment

Science

Year 9 Science students are pictured measuring biotic factors in the environment at KCC.

As a part of their assessment this term, students were identifying the populations of plant species present and their distribution using a transect sampling technique last week.

This term they will also be investigating the abundance of species using quadrats as well as capture-recapture methods. Soil and water sampling will allow students to collect abiotic data from the local environment at Erin Earth. Furthermore, students will be researching the interactions between living organisms using food chains and food webs, as well as the impact of humans on the environment. Science students will be creating a proposal based upon their research, for a landscape developer on how to improve a chosen area of land.
