Classroom Reports

Foundation and Year 1

This week in Mathematics, we have started a topic on Money. We are learning to become familiar with the size, shape, colour, feel and value of the Australian coins.

We have read some indigenous stories, e.g. 'How the Birds got their Colours' and 'How the Kangaroo got his Tail'.  We then brainstormed animals that we could include in our own stories. We have some very original ideas! In reading, we are looking at making connections with our own experiences, to those in the book, along with answering questions by finding key words in the text.

In Foundation, we are learning to write narratives.

Keep up the regular reading each night.

Mrs Chalmers

Classroom Teacher

Years 1 & 2

It is good to see our numbers are getting back to normal in class so hopefully most coughs and colds are behind us!

Thank you to the parents who requested Learning Conversations and please don’t hesitate to contact me any other time if you have concerns about your child’s learning or progress.

In Maths we have been learning our ‘doubles’ and ‘near doubles’ so we can recall them quickly, some are even able to double 3 digit numbers! We are continuing our multiplication and division work in our maths groups. You might hear us talking about equal groups, rows, columns and arrays. Some are learning their 2 and 5 times tables.

In Literacy some of us are learning about how to find the main idea in a text. This helps us to understand what we are reading. “What do you think that was mainly about?” is something you can ask your child when they have read to you.

We have also started our training for the upcoming athletic sports.

Stay warm and healthy.

'Celebration of the Arts' Evening 2022

We are delighted to announce that on September 2nd, 2022, Wedderburn College will be hosting a ‘Celebration of the Arts’ evening, as a showcase of students’ skills and passions within all areas of performing arts.

Each student, from Foundation to Year 12, will be performing their class’s act, which will be selected with student input and facilitated by school staff. Students from Years 5 to 12 will also be invited to audition to perform on the evening as individuals or in groups. Google Forms will be provided soon to homeroom teachers for students to sign up to audition. Auditions will take place in Week 1 of Term 3.

We look forward to seeing the many talents that our students have to offer!
