Spotlight on New Staff

Meet our new staff member, Shuo Li. We asked him a few questions to help you to get to know him.

What year did you commence at HCC and what is your role here?

I started working at HCC in 2017 and I am currently teaching Secondary level mathematics.

What are your hobbies?

In my spare time, I like to read history and play the piano. I also enjoy playing racket sports such as tennis, badminton and table tennis.

Unusual fact/something we may not know.

Hmm. My life is pretty predictable so nothing out of the ordinary really.

No Right Hand Turn onto Kingston Road

This is clearly sign posted at the College entrance/exit point. If you need to head east down Kingston

Parents, a reminder that right-hand turns are not permitted out of the College onto Kingston Road on school days between the hours of 8:00am and 9:30am and 3:00pm and 4:00pm.

This is clearly sign posted at the College entrance/exit point. If you need to head east down Kingston Road, please turn left on to Kingston Road and drive down to the Dingley by-pass. There is a slip lane at this intersection so the extra time required is minimal.

It has been noted that some parents are ignoring this rule. For the safety of all drivers and passengers please obey this rule. Thank you.

Australian Scout Medallion

Recently Mr Cliffe received a letter from Mr Brendan J Watson OAM, the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria and the Principal of Catholic Regional College Sydenham.

Mr Watson would like to celebrate the significant achievements of our student, India Kennedy. India was presented with the Australian Scout Medallion on Saturday 6 May at a presentation attended by hundreds of people from across Victoria. The medallion is the highest award earned by Scouts (11 to 14 year old members of Scouting).

The above outlines the significant work that India has put into earning the award. It requires leadership, organisation, drive, determination, resilience and high-level practical scouting knowledge including campcraft and hiking. India is recognised as a leader, now and in the future.

India is now entering the next youth section of Scouting, called Ventures. This could lead to her completing certificates recognised by VCAA as  accredited VET courses for VCE and VCAL. Ultimately she could be eligible to apply for early admission to universities that recognise the value of the Scouting education program. Well done, India!

Vic CSEN Basketball & Soccer

Last week three HCC students - Danielle Lisbon (Open girls), Nathan Raymond (Under 15 boys) and Grace Lisbon (Under 15 girls) headed up to Sydney for the CSEN School sports to represent Victoria in basketball. The games are held every two years.

A round robin format commenced proceedings with each state playing each other. This then culminated in a final series. After a few hard fought games, each of the three teams made it through to the Gold medal playoff.

Dani’s team played a very physical game against the undefeated SA team in the Finals and won the Silver medal.  The Under 15 Boys lead by Nathan as team captain dominated the competition right from the start and won the Gold medal convincingly.  Grace’s Under 15 Girls were undefeated in the tournament heading into the Finals and won the Gold medal.  Grace won the Most Valuable Player award for the Vic team.  Well done, Guys!

Emily Ryan in Year 8 participated in the National Christian School Sports Championship in Sydney to represent Victoria in Under 21 Girls Soccer.  On the last day of the competition, Emily’s team played with no sub left due to injuries but managed to win Bronze medal in the Finals against Queensland.  Emily received the Captain’s Award for Best Player in Defense.  “The travel by coach to Sydney was nice and we got to go to Bondi beach when we arrived.  It was really nice meeting, bonding and playing with the girls from the other Christian schools and making new friends.  The Victorian teams (boys and girls) even had the ‘banana cheer’.  Overall, it was such a great experience and will do it again if I qualify in 2019!”

Kingston Division Cross Country

Kaiya Bunyon, Taylor Nel, Alesha Maxwell and Zahra Mahna ran very well at the recent Cheltenham District Cross Country and finished in the top 10.  As a result, They have progressed through to the Kingston Division Cross Country which will take place on Wednesday 7 June at Cornish College in Bangholme. Well done, Girls!
