From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents/Guardians
One characteristic of our students, and indeed our whole College community, that really stands out to me is kindness. The culture of HCC is for our students to be kind to one another. I see kindness happening here each day. Kindness helps build a strong healthy community and people that genuinely care about each other. HCC is that community. Sometimes it is not enough to only say kind words, you actually have to do something practical to demonstrate kindness. A few years ago, our whole College community got behind a worthy cause to raise the funds required to finance an assistance dog for a student with a disability. The HCC community raised many thousands of dollars and now the assistance dog is making a difference in the quality of life of a young girl.
We have another genuine need in our College community. One of our students, Elise Richards in Year 9, has been in hospital the past five months with a serious illness. The illness has damaged her spinal cord and she is now permanently confined to a wheelchair. Elise is paralysed and is not able to walk. Elise has been through so much over the past months and she has shown great character and courage. It is now getting closer to when Elise can return to school. I would like to do everything that we can to assist Elise in her return to school.
To enable her to return to school we need to make some modifications to the College and our disability facilities. Elise will also require the assistance of an aide. The only thing stopping this from happening is finance. There is a significant cost involved in making these capital improvements and providing an aide for Elise. I am determined to make this happen so Elise can return to school, be with her friends and continue her education. We are planning to have a couple of fundraisers to support this. There will be more details to follow about the fundraisers. If you are interested in supporting Elise in any other way, please do not hesitate to contact me.
