Invitation: Parent Prayer Nights

Parents and parishioners are warmly invited to come together on the second Tuesday of each month to gather for time in prayer and enjoy a reflection on the Gospels and spiritual talks by Fr Robbie over a light supper.  These evenings will be adults only and are designed to become a place for you to bring your worries, needs and prayer intentions, and connect with other people in our Galilee community.  The first prayer night will be on Tuesday June 8 at 7.30

pm in the St Anne's Meeting room. See flyer:

Wellbeing Corner

Dealing with tantrums are part and parcel of being a parent and they can be challenging for all of us, but in times of high intensity, those areas of the brain that regulate emotions are harder to reach.  When a child is in the middle of a tantrum they've lost the ability to reason. So mid tantrum is not the  time for teaching, negotiating, reasoning or even punishing. Instead, let your calm be contagious.  Acknowledge and name their feelings with empathy, and ride it out.  Once the storm has passed, you can visit those teaching moments.  Bedtime is a great time to do this by saying something like "Earlier, you were so angry when your brother took your toy, its OK to feel angry, its not OK to hurt. What else can you do  when you feel angry? Stomp your feet? Take deep breaths?" By doing this, we shorten the life of the tantrum, we build self esteem and self regulation skills and we nurture healthy attachment. #rideitout
