Green Team in action

Clean up at the creek

We’ve had a great start to the year with many students jumping on board and taking action within their local community. It was fantastic to meet some fresh Year 7 students at the picnic, and see them get stuck in for the Clean up Australia Day at Merri Creek on Friday. Students walked into the depths of the bush by the creek to collect rubbish within the 2 hours allocated. Some of the things we found were glad wrap; plastic bottles; foil; slurpee cups; and lots of golf balls. We are pleased to say we found far fewer straws and cigarette butts in comparison to our last clean up.

Don’t forget we are also participating in the recycling “Terracycle” challenge with drop-off boxes for all your dental waste, batteries, bread clips e.t.c in the library by the green team stand.

Tiny art for endangered species

We were thrilled to see the wonderful turn out for the “Tiny art for nature” project curated by Carmel Killin. Emma Salmon of Year 10 introduced the art workshop, encouraging students to draw an endangered species, flora or fauna. She outlined the specifications, including tiny compositional elements which will bring unity among the works when they are presented in an art exhibition, curated by Carmel, later in the year for Threatened Species Day. The exhibition with be comprised of over a thousand artworks and we hope to see many submissions from the students and wider community of Northcote High. If you’re interested in participating, please do not hesitate to come along to one of the workshops advertised on the green team board in the library or school grounds.
