Welcome new staff - part 3

Joining our community

Continuing our introduction to new staff members, we are delighted to have these teachers join our community this year. Please say hello when you see them around.

Corey Walker

Corey is thrilled to join the community at Northcote. He is looking forward to sharing his love of mathematics, science and physics and is excited to be teaching across a range of classes from Year 7 up to Year 12 – his ideal teaching load. Corey simultaneously developed his passion for education and renewable energy sources whilst completing a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Melbourne, and has been teaching since 2001.

Corey has a passion for travel and music and is often most relaxed when playing guitar or piano at home. He enjoys spending time in the outdoors – whether at a surf beach or hiking, and enjoys playing golf and tennis. He is keen to involve himself in some of the many co-curricular programs offered at Northcote.

At previous schools, Corey has been involved in various curriculum and program management roles and enjoys collaborating with others. He was drawn to Northcote High School as a result of is its commitment to student agency, inclusivity and collaboration. Corey is looking forward to getting to know new students and contributing to the innovative journey of Northcote High School.

Declan Jones

I have been playing music in Melbourne, around Australia and internationally for over 20 years. Combining performances in jazz, funk and "world music" ensembles with music education for students of all ages, I love making music for people to get involved with. I’ve had the pleasure of touring Australia with Nashville soul legend Charles Walker and performed with the indy rock group Spoon and the extreme metal pioneers Dillinger Escape Plan! I continue to play locally and tour with The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, The Bombay Royale, Calle Luna, Hoodoo Mayhem Brass Band and The Wiki-Men (Hawaiian-Swing-Exotica-Rock-Jazz)

Troy Rainbow

I’ve been playing music since I was very young. I have a Master of Music and am currently doing a PhD in Virtual Reality and Immersive Theatre. I’ve taught singing now for over 10 years and teach people of all ages. I’m also a performing artist. I have performed at several music festivals including BIGSOUND, St Kilda Festival and South by South West. My music has been played on Triple J and on some College radio in the US. I’m really looking forward to joining the vibrant Northcote High School music program and have already been amazed by the levels of talent that echo through the Performing Arts Centre every day. I’m particularly looking forward to working on challenging pieces with the Senior Vocal Ensemble and performing them at the school, in the community and in competitions.

Rodrigo Veras Salgardo

I am passionate about performing and teaching music.  I have been a bass teacher and performer for the last nineteen years, where I had the opportunity to teach from primary school

to tertiary music programs in different countries as Brazil, USA and Australia.  Alongside my career, I have taught full time for nine years at the Conservatory of Brasilia, Brazil, and for two years at the University of Utah jazz department, USA.

I did my undergraduate in composition and my Masters in jazz performance. And after many years working as a session musician, I just finished my first album with original compositions and arrangements.

I moved to Australia with my family eleven months ago from Brazil.  It has been a big challenge in our lives, but we are having a great time so far.  I am very excited to start working at Northcote High School, where I want to contribute with all my expertise.

I am most looking forward to being part of the Northcote High School music team.  To learn more about the school and contribute to my students and coworkers.

I probably will have many questions in my first weeks at the school, and I hope to count with your help to go through it.  Looking forward to knowing you all!
