Uniform Change Over

A reminder to Junior School families that next Monday, 3 May is the change-over day for uniform.  All students must be in their winter uniform (with blazers to and from school).  P.E/House uniform is to be worn on class P.E days and Fridays.  Hats are optional between May 1st and September 1st.

Junior School ANZAC Service

On Monday 26 April, we held our Junior School ANZAC Service.  Our Year 6 students did a tremendous job of leading the Service.  COVID-19 restrictions prevented us from having a guest speaker.  Our theme this year was ‘Family Ties with ANZAC Day’.  Mrs Milich shared stories of her father’s military service.  He fought in the Vietnam War.  She spoke to us of the mateship and comradery that existed in his squad.  Dr. Hirst’s grandfather fought in World War 1.  After the war to end all wars, he decommissioned from the Australian Army and joined the British Army, serving in India and Afghanistan in the 1920s.  Dr. Hirst shared with us that in his family, his grandfather’s military sword is used to cut wedding cakes.  My grandfather served in the 7th Light Horse in World War 1.  He saw action in Egypt, Palestine, Gallipoli and on the Western Front. To complete the Service, students collected a sprig of rosemary and placed it under the lone pine on the oval hill.

I thank the following Junior School students who gave their time on Sunday to represent the College in the Hamilton ANZAC Day March - Sammie and Ruby Price, Tom and Freddy Nagorcka, Tom and Evie Templeton, Poppy Shepherd, Anika Nelson, Phoebe Alexander, Amelia Bradbeer, Chloe Laidlaw, Finley Hiscock, Jack Wallis, Sophie Hill, Marianna Novikov and Rupert Merrin.

Hockey

Last Saturday saw College Division 5 Kangaroos and Division 4 Bandicoots, Drop Bears and Tassie Devils take to the field for their first matches of the 2021 season.

The Division 5 Kangaroos played Demons and came away with a well-deserved 3-0 win.  Camilla Edgar and Maggie Mercer scored goals for the Kangaroos.  All players gave their all and it was an excellent team effort. Best on ground were Kirav Patel, Poppy Shepherd and Camilla Edgar.

In Division 4, Drop Bears had a hard fought 1-0 win over Bandicoots.  Both teams were evenly matched.  Best for Drop Bears were Pippa Williamson, goalie Lucy Fraser and Charlie Hiscock.  Harry Lyons scored the only goal of the match.  Bandicoots were best served by Sacha Laidlaw, Rupert Merrin and Millie Mould.

Tassie Devils defeated Dunkeld 3-0.  Tom Templeton, Arbella Little and Will Baker were best on ground for Tassie Devils.  Tom Templeton scored all three goals.

Congratulations to Jessica Templeton (Year 4) and William Templeton (Year 6) who filled in and played a B-Grade Women’s match for Coleraine on the weekend.  It was a big step up from Division 4 and 5 hockey - well done!

A reminder to all Division 4 and 5 parents that they must sign in via the QR codes and the Service Vic App at Pedrina Park and Neil MacLean Hockey Field.
