Co-Curricular

STEM

Hello everyone and welcome to the STEM Co-curricular update for Term 2, 2021.

The project for this term will be F1 in Schools Cadet Class

What is Cadet Class?

Cadet Class is an entry-level class for students who are participating in the F1 in Schools competition for the first time. It has reduced rules and regulations compared to the other classes. It is specifically aimed at students in the junior years of high school.

It allows participating students the ability to design and build an F1 car by using a variety of exciting technologies like:

  • CNC Router
  • CAD Drawing Software

Not to mention the additional skills of collaboration, problem solving, the design process and fun developed along the way in this learning journey.

Groups are usually made up of between 1-3 students and all groups will be asked to design and create :

  • An F1 Car made out of balsa wood
  • A Poster outlining the groups work
  • An engineering drawing

There is also a regional competition all groups will be invited to participate in.

Cadet Class is a great introduction to F1 in Schools program that then leads onto the Development Class that has both State & National titles which will further develop  your STEM skills.

The Co-curricular will run on Wednesday afternoons in the Technology building from 3:15 pm until 4:45pm.

Congratulations and best wishes to our current 3 teams who are competing in the National Titles next week:

  • PEAK (Development Class)
  • PERPETROL (Development Class)
  • PHOTONIC (Professional Class)

We have a limited number of spots available due to the unique projects we run each term and preferences will be given to students in STAGE 4 i.e. (Years 7 and 8).

If you are interested in participating please see Mr O’Keeffe or Mr Olmos to sign up ASAP.

See you in STEM!
