Junior School

Welcome back to school for all families and a warm welcome to those joining us for the first time (or rejoining us as the case may be!). I trust you had a restful school holiday and didn’t over indulge on too much chocolate over Easter.

Term 2 is a busy term and it has started with a bang. Following a valuable day of collaboration amongst staff we welcomed children back to school on Tuesday and straight away Stage 1 Coconuts and Grapes were off on an excursion to the Schoolhouse Museum in North Ryde to learn about what school was like in times gone by. I hear the schoolmasters and mistresses took their roles very seriously indeed! Also this week the HICES debating competition commenced in which we are fielding two talented teams. I am looking forward to hearing how they get on this year. Finally on Friday, Henry Laurie and Xavier Stephens of the S3 Raspberries are competing in the CIS Football Championships as part of the HICES team. Good luck boys!

Next week for Early Learning parents we are conducting workshops at each campus to provide information about the InitiaLit program, the basis of our literacy teaching in the early years. If you would like to attend one of the sessions please let the Office know or simply come along and find out all about it. The sessions are as follows:

  • JSW: Monday, April 26 3.15 – 4.45
  • JSS: Wednesday, April 28 3.15 – 4.45

You may book your child into After School Care free of charge for the duration of the sessions.

We have an exciting term ahead of quality learning and the richness of school life. The staff and I look forward to seeing you soon.

More Grammar Grit from Noah Erne

You may recall the success in Term 1 of one of our students, Noah Erne (Year 5) who was selected in the CIS team to compete at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships. Again, Noah achieved some outstanding results. Just look at these achievements:

  • He was selected in the NSW team to compete at the Australian Championships (these have unfortunately been cancelled due to COVID)
  • He broke the State 50m Junior Boys Backstroke record (new titleholder).
  • He broke the State 50m Junior Boys Breaststroke record (however came second in this event, so the boy who won is the new titleholder).
  • He achieved 2 gold medals (50m freestyle, 50m backstroke) and 2 silver medals (50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly)
  • He came 5th overall in the open category (all ages) in 100m freestyle
  • He swam Personal Bests in every event, obliterating his previous PB’s by 4 – 6 seconds in a number of strokes.

What a fantastic achievement, Noah. You make us all very proud.
