Principal's Message

Tony Hicks

Principal

As term 1 draws to a close I would like to acknowledge our wonderful students and staff for their efforts in making sure the (almost) post COVID world is back!

Our Year 7 students have settled in well and are now well and truly part of Lake Illawarra High.

Many of the extra -curricular activities that were placed on hold last year have now returned. Students have more activities to choose from than ever.

We have also put in place some excellent Literacy and Numeracy programs that will benefit ALL students.

Also, our STEM Academy is providing our students with some really exciting opportunities in this really exciting area.

A huge thank you to everyone for your support this term.

Have a great Easter holiday, take care of yourselves and each other. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 20/4/21 for the start of Term 2.

From the Deputies' Desk

We have been enjoying an amazing term of teaching and learning with many exciting activities underway. Last week we held our school Cross country carnival where our kids could enter into the competitive or non-competitive event and it was great to see our kids out there enjoying themselves as they completed their events.  A very big thank you to Mr Carrett and the PE team and students helpers for their efforts on the day and a big well done and thank you to the many students who attended and competed.

Could I please remind everyone that our school has introduced the ‘Parent Portal’. The parent portal is a way for you to stay in touch with your child’s learning journey and is a way for us to communicate from school to home. The modules we use will allow you to see attendance data for the day, this includes the period by period attendance, your child’s timetable, messages by staff to the kids regarding upcoming events here at Lake (which is very handy if the kids forget to give you the information notes!), as well as their mid-term and yearly reports. During Term 2 we will be looking to implement online bookings for Parent-Teacher night.

Can I please ask parents to remind their children of cyber safety and the importance of staying safe on-line. The same rules for stranger danger apply on line as they do in person. Young adults need regular reminders not to engage, or share information with people they do not actually know. Some apps encourage this sort of 'networking', but it can prove to be very risky business. We cover this learning at school, but the message is strengthened when it comes from home also.

A big thank you to the entire school staff in particular our amazing Science faculty for the outstanding Easter show, that was hosted at our school and attended by our local primary schools. This was a great event and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces.

If at any time you wish to contact myself or Mr Meizer, you can do so by calling the school.
