Assistant Principal News

Welcome back staff, students and parents to Term 2!

While our students commenced last Tuesday, our staff returned on Monday the 19th of April for a productive Professional Learning Day.

The day was titled ‘High Impact Instruction’ and was focussed on building staff capacity to provide differentiated and engaging instructional strategies. The inspiration for the day stemmed from staff and student survey data and the research of educational leaders such as Lyn Sharratt.

Staff worked in small mixed KLA groupings to share ideas, knowledge and strategies. They will now have time allocated during their Embedded Professional Learning sessions during the term to apply these strategies to their programs and plans moving forward. I look forward to seeing some of the exciting learning initiatives that are created as a result.

Below you will see some images of staff engaging productively in the day.

Staff have also been busy completing their Year 12 Reports. Currently these reports are being proofread and checked. They will be uploaded on Compass and available for students and parents on Tuesday 11th May (Week 4). On the reports, parents and students will be able to view their progressive assessment rank at the Mid Course Stage, commendations and recommendations for their learning areas and an indication of their commitment to learning.

This will be followed by Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences for Year 12 on Wednesday 19th May. I urge all parents and students to save this date, so they can engage in a discussion about learning progress with the teachers. I cannot stress the importance of such a conversation for Parents, Students and Teachers at this stage of the year. Information on how to book will be sent with reports in Week 4.

Week 4 will also see the return of NAPLAN Online. From Wednesday May 12th Year 7 and 9 students will participate in NAPLAN tests in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy.

These tests provide staff, parents and students with vital diagnostic information to help enhance learning opportunities and interventions for the future. As such, I ask parents to ensure students are present at school on the dates indicated below, with their laptop fully charged, a set of headphones (non-bluetooth) and their books and pens for their remaining lessons. If students are going to be absent on any of the dates or times indicated, I ask that parents contact the Year 7 Pastoral Leader Ms Trish Star or the Year 9 Pastoral Leader Mr Dal Nevo.
