Eco-Dyeing in Textiles

The year ten textiles class at the Clyde North Campus recently experimented with eco-dyeing as a fun, practical project during remote learning.

Eco-Dyeing is a dyeing technique that uses natural materials such as plants, food scraps or spices and the students were encouraged to embrace the beauty that can be found in their own surroundings. Using only a few ingredients the students had the chance to produce a dyed product with food or plant materials and then reflect on their learnings. Students were encouraged to be as sustainable as possible and use only products and fabrics they already had at home or in their garden.

The results were surprising- especially when the original colours in their choice of food did not necessarily match the end result!

Here are some pictures of their dyed products.
