Performing Arts News

2018 has been the best year ever for OLA in the Performing Arts Festival. Every class from Year 1 to Year 6 participated, and EVERY class received an award. What an astounding achievement!  Here is the full list of our awards:

Year 1      Beginner Choir section                        Merit Award

Year 2      Choral Verse                                             Excellence Award

Year 3      Class Choir                                                Merit Award

Year 4      Liturgical Choir                                       Excellence Award

Year 5      Excerpt from Musical                           Outstanding Award

Year 6      Liturgical Choir                                       Excellence Award, and Shield for Best Primary Musical

Year 6     Recorder Club                                          Outstanding Award

In addition, our Bible readers did us proud! Ava from Year 5 received an Outstanding Award, while Tahlia in Year 6 received an Excellence Award, and Isaac in Year 4 received a Merit Award. In the Solo Piano section, Daniel in Year 5 received an Outstanding Award.

Our Recorder Club was rated the best recorder ensemble in the Festival, and were invited back last week to play-off against other primary music ensembles for the Primary Ensemble Shield. The nineteen boys and girls attended the play-off last week, and while the Shield was ultimately awarded to a string ensemble from Loreto Primary, Nedlands, our students gave another outstanding performance.

Well done to all.

Instrumental Tuition Term 3

If your child receives instrumental tuition at OLA, the tutors will be in contact directly with you to schedule lessons for the term. We currently offer tuition in piano, drums, violin, flute and guitar. Later this term, our guitar tutor, Luke Gallagher, will be going to Nashville USA to play some gigs, and continue to develop his professional and personal contact with some of the ‘greats’ of his industry. During his absence, his pupils will be coached by Joe Simich, who has already worked with our students. All our tutors (and any replacements) are highly skilled in music as well as in pedagogy, and have up to date Working With Children checks.  For further information, please feel free to call to the Music Room, or email me at mary.mcauliffe@cewa.edu.au
