Year 5/6JC Religious Education

with Miss Colyer

This week 5/6JC have continued to look at and explore the whole school scripture ‘The Final Judgement’ Matthew: Chapter 25: 31- 40. As a class we have looked into the differences between the goat and the sheep in the passage and why they were separated between the left and right sides. Each student has named examples of how they could show these positive characteristics in their own life as symbolised by the sheep. The seniors have been asked the questions: What does this have to do with me? What does hunger, poverty and homelessness have to do with me?

We have had discussions around the choices we can make in our day to day life regarding these questions. Many students referred to this quote from the scripture ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Some personal responses to these questions were:

Poverty, homelessness and hunger are huge problems in everyday life and it has everything to do with me. It is my/our responsibility to help those struggling and in need to make the world a better place. - Leonardo

In the passage I believe that I am related to them because of the good and the bad in me and how I can change my behaviour to do better. - Amelia

These three big words mean a lot to me. They teach us many lifetime lessons like to always know that everything matters and that it could affect me one day. - Justin
