2020 INTERHOUSE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

On Tuesday, 11 August the Senior School came together for another successful Interhouse Cross Country Carnival.

The use of timing chips was once again a success, and a huge commendation goes to all students for their effort on the day and their clear display of Empathy, Respect, Integrity and Courage (ERIC).

All students are congratulated on the enthusiasm and energy they displayed throughout the afternoon, and we congratulate Stirling House on winning the Senior School Division. All Champions and Runner Ups announced on the day are listed below. Congratulations to all runners on their effort and finishing the event!

We would like to thank all of the spectators who came along to support the students. We would also like to show our appreciation to all of the staff who acted as marshals around the course who helped the afternoon run smoothly. Thank you also to the Grounds Team for their support behind the scenes in the set up and pack down of the event.

The staff are always so positive towards these events, and we thank them for the way they approach their duties.

We look forward to another successful Carnival in 2021.

ACC AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL CARNIVALS

On Wednesday, 5 August a Year 10 boys team competed at the Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) Year 10 Australian Rules Football Carnival. All students applied themselves well and were great ambassadors for the College, managing to finish second on the day. Well done boys!

All Saints’ College hosted the Division 3 Year 10 Girls AFL Carnival on Wednesday, 12 August. The team improved significantly throughout the day and, while unable to secure a win, they represented the College with pride and demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship. It was great to see some Year 9 students step up to the challenge of playing against older students. Thank you to Mr Oliver Beath (Health and Physical Education Teacher / Head of O’Connor) and Sports Intern Cooper Eves (2019) for coaching on the day.

NETBALL SSWA YEAR 7/8 AND 9/10 CARNIVAL

On Thursday, 13 August All Saints’ sent four netball teams to the School Sport WA (SSWA) Netball Carnival – South. All teams competed well on the day and were excellent ambassadors for the College. The Year 7/8 A Team, coached by Miss Lorin Chandler (Health and Physical Education Teacher), went undefeated for the entire day and progress to the SSWA finals series.

The other 7/8 Team and both 9/10 teams competed strongly, winning the majority of their games on the day. Thank you to Old Saints Lara McInnis (2015) and Taylah Ion (2019), who coached alongside Health and Physical Education Teacher Miss Tatjiana Pieris on the day.

SURFING WA SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Tuesday, 18 August, Year 11 students Dexter Payenberg and Luc Latino competed in the WA Surfing School Championships. It was a wet and rainy day, however, Dexter and Luc competed extremely well, progressing to the final round. After some expert coaching from Transition Teacher Mr Russ Haxby, the boys were able to secure second place, with Dexter being awarded ‘Surfer of the Day’.  A fantastic effort!

BASKETBALL ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

Through their efforts during Term 1 ACC Sport, both the Senior Boys and Girls Basketball Teams progressed to the finals series of the ACC Basketball Championship. Their draw in the round of 16 saw the girls playing away, against Fredrick Irwin Anglican School and the boys competed against Emmanuel Christian Community School. The girls were defeated by an extremely talented Frederick Irwin, however, the team showed tremendous courage and spirit throughout the game and should be proud of their achievement. The boys team defeated Emmanuel comfortably (65 v 17), which allows them to progress into the round of eight, with a game to be held away next week.

The Junior Girls team also featured in the ACC Championship, as a result of a one-day carnival entry early in Term 1. This saw them travel to Chisholm Catholic College for their first match in the round of eight. Coahced by Mr Russ Haxby, the girls came away with the win, defeating Chisholm 61 v 39. They now progress to the round of four next week. A win here would see them play in the Grand Final at Bendat stadium on 3 September

Good luck to the Senior Boys and Junior Girls Teams in their round two finals matches next week!

Dunk for Cancer Fundraising Initiative

Is it possible to learn to dunk a basketball in three months?

In the name of raising awareness and fundraising for the Cancer Council of Australia, ASC Basketball Club coach and past parent Mr Kris Barnes is aiming to dunk a basketball by October to coincide with Breast Cancer Month.

In support of those in our community affected by cancer, Kris and Old Saint and basketballer Chris Ivison (2018) are working together to raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia. As well as fundraising, the initiative hopes to have a positive influence on players, families and other sporting teams. There has been tremendous support from the players in Kris' two teams who hope to spread their message to the wider community.

The first two weeks of Kris’ training – from not being able to touch the ring to attempting to dunk a tennis ball – can be watched HERE
