LAWRENCE WILSON ART GALLERY EXHIBITION

The College congratulates Year 11 Visual Art ATAR students Lani Robinson, Sophie Smith, Michelle Thesman and Emilia Traverso on their artworks being selected for an exhibition at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery on the UWA campus.

In February this year, Year 11 ATAR Visual Arts students visited the Perth Festival Exhibition The Long Kiss Goodbye at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. Subsequently, students had the opportunity to create artworks to be exhibited alongside other student work at the gallery, in response to the themes or an artist explored in The Long Kiss Goodbye

Exploring themes such as love, loss and attraction, the students created engaging and thought-provoking artworks using a range of mediums. The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday, 19 September, 2.00pm–3.00pm, and it will remain open until Saturday, 26 September.

In Lani's triptych 'Hearts', she created a physical representation of heartbreak, and the troubles faced when parting from someone you love.

In ‘Happy Days’, Sophie wanted to explore mental illness and its impact on day to day life. Her artwork refers to the 1950’s aesthetic of the TV show Happy Days and uses irony and humour to communicate meaning.

Michelle's two artworks, 'Swallowing Geography' and 'I Know How Furiously Your Heart Is Beating' explore obsession, ritual, and the duality present in the physical and intangible realms.

Emilia's work 'The Trickster' was inspired by the differences between animals and humans, how symbols, stories and deities tend to appear in completely separate and distinct cultures, and the "trickster" figure in mythology and folklore.
