Super Friday

A few Fridays ago we hosted our Super Friday and it was wonderful to see all the fantastic outfits! This was a great way to thank the people in our community who are working hard to take care of us during this difficult time. The 3/4s and their helpers put a lot of effort into their costumes, have a look at some here:

Maths

Over the past 2 weeks in Maths, we have been learning about area and perimeter. Students have been finding the area of regular rectangles, triangles and/or compound shapes. We worked on some fun activities to help us apply these concepts.

Reading

Reading has also been a lot of fun. We’ve been really good at doing our 20 minutes of reading each day and there have been some exciting reading response activities to complete. For example, we have been making wanted posters for one of the characters, performing puppet shows to retell the story, designing a new front cover, creating a newspaper report based on the problem in the story etc… We’ve also been recording ourselves reading out loud so our teachers can hear our lovely voices and our reading accuracy and fluency.

Inquiry

Last week we asked the students to design and make a model sailing boat in honour of science week. It was great to see the innovation and hard work of the students. There were many different types of boats and they all looked fantastic. We have also been continuing our work on Captain Cook. We have investigated his life and also recreated the arrival of the First Fleet through art.

**WORK IN PROGRESS**

We are now embarking on our own personal inquiry projects based on Australian colonisation and we can’t wait to see which area the students choose and the creative ways in which they show their understandings. Watch this space...

Religion

In Religion, we have been continuing our preparation work for the Sacrament of Eucharist. In particular, we have been investigating the Last Supper and how Eucharist is the re-enactment of this sacred event.

The students have been reflecting on what happened during this time and who was there.

They created some amazing perspective artwork by imagining they were looking through the keyhole into the Last Supper dining room. They also wrote down what Jesus or his disciples would have been feeling at the time. Here are the fantastic keyhole artworks:

We also started learning about Saint Mother Teresa this week. We discovered some interesting facts about her life and the wonderful work that she did when she was alive and the legacy that she left behind. We have also studied Saint Teresa of Calcutta and applied the PYP learner profile attributes to this inspirational human being.
