Author Zoom Events - Saturday Sessions

Two weeks ago, I mentioned a Saturday Session run by eventbrite that highlighted the book ‘Nit Boy’.

As it turns out, this is a weekly event (for the moment) and each week a different author spends time exploring their books and their process as a writer! The authors they seem to have chosen are engaging and appeal to a variety of readers. The sessions are free as well. This Saturday the authors are Jim Harris and James Foley. The session starts at 3pm and all sessions are free.

New Writing Units

Over the next few weeks, many year levels will be shifting their writing focus. For the past five weeks, the Preps have been working on writing on dotted thirds and letter formation, the 1/2s have been developing a range of information texts, the 3/4s have written biographies and historical journal entries, and the 5/6s have written information reports and short stories. You can see some examples of the writing students have been engaged in below. The upcoming focus areas for different year levels are below:

Prep - Making books and developing the skills of an author e.g. generating ideas, illustrating, composing texts

Year 1/2 - Understanding poems, finding topics for poetry and writing poems that use techniques used by authors

Year 3/4 - Using specific language and craft techniques to improve texts across genres

Year 5/6 - Developing language techniques and the ability to write meaningful poetry

These writing units will focus not only on conventions but also on the composition of rich texts and we look forward to sharing students' work with you.
