Chinese at home

LOTE Chinese

What’s happening in LOTE Chinese

Weeks 7 and 8 is review week. Zheng laoshi is so proud of your efforts to practice Chinese at home. I can definitely see the efforts you have put into speaking as I receive videos of you speaking with excellent pronunciation. Well done!

Assessment tasks scheduled for Week 9 have now been sent out one week early so you can enjoy the last week of school with Specialists Challenge activities. Don’t worry if you are not ready to do the assessment this week and need another week to practice. Though assessment tasks are not due till Week 3 of Term 4 (October 23rd), requests for assessment modifications to suit some students’ learning needs and situation need to be sent to me this term, especially for newly enrolled students.

Let’s celebrate!

You have all worked hard this term and we should celebrate our final week of learning with something special. As dining in a Chinese restaurant is not an option at the moment, let’s do some Chinese cooking from home. Get ready and shop for your cooking ingredients (in most Coles and Woolworths supermarkets) now and choose to shop either for dumplings or spring rolls making (recipes link: https://bit.ly/3jSfTGb). Here’s a glimpse of what you can shop for if you make dumplings (see link for spring rolls shopping list).

DUMPLINGS INGREDIENTS:

  1. dumpling skins (or make your own with plain flour, wheat starch and water)
  2. dumpling fillings (choose one from either chicken, beef or pork)
  • for chicken dumplings: Chinese cabbage, chicken mince, ginger, spring onions or Chinese chives, white pepper, chicken stock (can replace with water), light soy sauce, shaoxing wine, vegetable oil, sesame oil
  • for beef dumplings: carrots, mushrooms, eggs, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, vegetable oil, sesame oil
  • for pork dumplings: green cabbage, pork mince, chives, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, shaoxing wine, sesame oil, white pepper, peanut oil, micro chives and fresh red chilli (to serve
