Year Advisers Reports

7, 9 and 11

Year 7

Well done! Three quarters of Year 7 done! We have had another crazy term to go along with this crazy year, however you have done so well in handling all the changes. Unfortunately, many of the exciting things we had planned had to be cancelled including camp. We are hoping to have a camp in the future and will keep all families updated.

Congratulations to all students who received Henry Hero’s this term, and the winners of our weekly (sometimes fortnightly!) draw. A big congratulations to all the students who received a letter of commendation this term, your positive attitude to all your work and our school is fantastic to see. Also, immense congratulations to our newly appointed SRC representatives for Year 7 – Caleb Perkins and Luden Hanson. Both students underwent an application and panel interview process and show excellent leadership and forward thinking to help our school be a great place for all students.

During the term Mr Silver and Mr Hoole ran a Futsal competition, it was fantastic to see so lots of year 7 join in the fun, congratulations to the final winners and everyone who joined in.

Term 4 can be a busy term, with many classes finishing off assessment tasks for teachers to be able to complete your final Year 7 report. Remember not to stress and to keep a planner to help with organisation and knowing when everything is due.

“Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE.
The word itself says I’M POSSIBLE!” Audrey Hepburn

Have a safe and restful holiday, looking forward to seeing everyone back in Term 4.

Year 9

What a busy term Year 9 have had!

A congratulations goes to our new SRC Representatives for the 2020/2021 school year, Ashlee Lane and Kasm Al Rubayi. These students have already made and will continue to make an outstanding contribution to Henry Kendall High School. Also, a big thank you to Alydia Dumpert who was our outgoing SRC representative. Thank you for all your efforts!

Henry Kendall High School celebrated RUOK? Day in week 8. It was a fantastic event and it was amazing to celebrate the great culture we have here at Henry Kendall High School. We were treated to some amazing live music performances, a special mention goes to the following Year 9 students for their incredible performances: Vesna Bakarich-Davies, Alydia Dumpert, Ella McNeill, Excel Egwutuoha and Samantha Edwards-McCallan. Well done guys!

The Peer Mentoring Program is a great initiative that involves Year 10 students providing support and guidance for the new Year 7 students. I have had some fantastic volunteers put their hand up for the 2020-2021 Peer Mentoring Program . The training day for the program will take place Week 1, Term 4. Please ensure you have returned your permission notes to be considered for this fantastic opportunity.

Unfortunately, due to changing restrictions, Tuesday school sport had to be changed to only allow year groups to participate together. Year 9 are to be congratulated on the way they have adjusted to these changes and taken them in their stride. I have had many teachers throughout the school notify me that Year 9 have been very enthusiastic and engaged in any sport they are participating in. A great effort by all!

I would also like to give a special mention to Charlotte Yu for her incredible Romeo and Juliet English Assessment Task submission. It was an amazing piece of artwork, Charlotte. A fantastic effort! If you happen to find yourself in the front office, you can view Charlotte’s artwork.

I am extremely proud of how Year 9 have conducted themselves in this challenging term! Enjoy your well-deserved break and I will see you all for a new and exciting Term 4.

Miss Tamara Sexty

Year 9 Adviser

Year 11

Year 11 are currently completing their yearly exams which will see the end of Year 11 courses. It hasn’t been the easiest journey and to acknowledge that fact Mrs James and myself organised a morning tea last week with nachos and a lucky dip.

It was a great opportunity for us all to get together before the exam period and it was a great success. Students have been fantastic during the exam period and hopefully their hard work will be reflected in their results.

Last Thursday students enjoyed a break in routine to acknowledge RUOK? Day and Year 11 students featured in the organisation and performances. It was the first opportunity for our new captains and prefects to flex their leadership muscle and they did a great job. Well done to all of those involved in this worthwhile event.

Term 4 will see the start of HSC courses and on the first Tuesday of term, students will be involved in an interview process. The purpose of this is for the students to review their year and discuss HSC patterns with Head Teachers. Students need to attend school only for their interview times and should be dressed appropriately with their resume and any paperwork required.

A letter will be coming home early in the term requesting permission for students to be part of the ‘Class of 2021’ Facebook group. This is a private page that I have set up only open to the year group. It will be a useful tool for communication within the group and students have been inducted on guidelines surrounding their participation. Please sign and return the permission note promptly when you receive it early next term.

Another support that the school traditionally has in place for Year 12 students is the mentor program. In this program students nominate teachers that they would like to meet with on a regular basis to receive solid advice on time-management, study, work-life balance and another ear to unload on! Please encourage your student to be involved in the program as former students have reported it to be extremely useful.

I hope you all have a very enjoyable holiday and I would advise Year 11 students to rest and refresh as Term 4 is very busy and extremely important in the commencement of their final year of school.
