Year 10 P-TECH

Congratulations to Year 10 P-TECH students who on Friday 4 September kicked off their first virtual presentation/interview of IBM employee, Michelle Swinden. Michelle is an alumni of Henry Kendall High School of 30 years ago and has been employed ever since with IBM International in Human Resource Management. Our students diligently interviewed Michelle with questions as what is your advice to a 15 year who wants your job; what are the highlights and most rewarding part of your job and what does a typical morning look like for you. We thank Michelle for sharing her top tips on career and life. Our Year 10 students will be participating again on Friday 18th September as we have the privilege to virtually interview Professor Rhonda Wilson – Nursing and Midwifery, Newcastle University Ourimbah Campus.

Year 9 i-STEM P-TECH

Year 9 P-TECH students were launched into their 2ND workshop of mentoring on Friday 11th September focusing on professional skills. Our students were again in their teams and hosted by local industry experts from the Central Coast including keynote speakers Dawn Routledge and Vince Carroll, Manager Services Operations for central Coast Council. Our speakers discussed in depth with our year 10 students the important qualities of professionalism to be a successful employee and how connect professional skills. Highlights from their discussions also included analytical thinking, self-management and motivation.

Again, we will be looking forward to our third and final workshop in Week 1, Term 4 with our industry mentors from the Central Coast which will be focusing on leadership, curiosity and entrepreneurship.

We would like to thank our IBM P-TECH liaison officer Jillian Williams and Suzy Miller, executive coach and Leadership Mentoring for making possible such incredible opportunities for our students to be mentored by Central Coast industry experts in their fields.
